Why is the Super Bowl in the New York area?

Cold weather, snow and miserable fans is not the way to showcase a championship game.

And now the game is not even a sellout. As of yesterday there we're 18,000 unsold tickets,
http://nypost.com/2014/01/27/ticket-prices-plummet-weekend-before-super-bowl/

And because there are so many tickets available, ticket prices are dropping like a stone in water.
The average ticket price was $5K - $6K and are now in the $1.5K - $2K range.

In contrast it's in the 70's in SoCal with plenty of sunshine, just no water.

It's always in warm climates.

I think every stadium should get a crack at hosting it. I doubt if I was going on Sunday, I would be miserable.

seats that have heating like luxury boxes.

The reason I don't like cold weather championship games, the weather
becomes the factor. It will not showcase what got both teams to this game.

Play through adverse conditions.

I wouldn't sit in a luxury box if I were going - that's not football. Not where I have lived -Chicago and Green Bay. Indoor football is like watching it a a fancy mall. I would rather sit out there in the weather as I did back in the day. It's a helluva lot of fun.

super bowl should be played where the weather won't mask the talent
why each team got there.

You won't really know who the best team is, in these conditions.

All the stadiums should have a chance to boost local economies with the game. It's about tiime somebody else gets the chance to host. If some are afraid of the cold, they can stay home. Plenty of people will snap up tickets.

Warm weather football sucks anyway.

the Superbowl was played in football weather? Watching teams play in short sleeves makes my teeth ache. As far as ticket prices? Cry me a freeking river that they're only able to get $1500 a ticket (esp since the face price is $800). It's all for corporate stooges at this point and I hope they freeze their asses off.

We'd park in our garage on Capitol Hill, walk BLOCKS to RFK stadium, sit in all weather, walk (or cab) back, then head to Union Station for dinner. Those are some seriously good memories. And I'd much rather sit in snow, and even rain (plastic!), than blazing heat and humidity!

and besides, the people who "matter" will all be in heated sky boxes.

It's more a cold weather, fall game. It was never meant to be dragged out until February. Sports move indoors to hockey and basketball when it gets seriously cold and snowy.

The Super Bowl has historically been in a warm (southern) climate; however, northern Cities have wanted to bid as well for the perceived economic benefits. NY/NJ was seen as a opportunity to try out an open-air winter game in a location with adequate hotel/event spaces.
