Al Hunt - tough atmosphere for Obama to speak in - A- to an A. Given a bad hand, played superbly.
Glenn Hubbard - Obama did what he needed to do; but re economics, lacked details of how he would do it. Interesting ideas...not many big themes. (this one worked for both Bushes, so no surprise)
James Fallows - great speech - coherent, striking - "things are getting better" ="Reganesque" tones (yuck!)...confident speech. Called on business leaders to do things voluntarily.
Larry Summers - good speech - found just the right line on inclusive prosperity. Spoke about important issues in a good progressive tone - no big overarching policy, but if all he described happened, US growth rate would get better faster. High marks for talking about economics in thoughtful way.
Mark Halperin - higher energy than expected, and arguments very clear (nearly as good as Clinton tends to do) - strong on health care and immigration.
Doris Kearns Goodwin - showed vitality and animation and that he was still president (didn't act lame duck-ish). How he projected himself was as important as what he said - best speech in some time. It worked - forceful without being combative. Executive orders are not king-like - other presidents have done it.

(27,310 posts)"Two minutes later the Voice and the soma vapour had produced their effect. In tears, the Deltas were kissing and hugging one another-half a dozen twins at a time in a comprehensive embrace. Even Helmholtz and the Savage were almost crying. A fresh supply of pill-boxes was brought in from the Bursary; a new distribution was hastily made and, to the sound of the Voice's richly affectionate, baritone valedictions, the twins dispersed, blubbering as though their hearts would break. "Good-bye, my dearest, dearest friends, Ford keep you! Good-bye, my dearest, dearest friends, Ford keep you. Good-bye my dearest, dearest ..."
