Documentary About Anita Hill Recounts Explosive Clarence Thomas Sexual Harassment Hearing (VIDEO)

A film is set to hit theaters featuring the story of Anita Hill, the woman who accused then Supreme Court judge nominee Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment. Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Freida Mock, the film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival to sold out screenings.

The trailer opens with the question, "Who here knows about Anita Hill?" The woman asking the question to a room full of young black girls is met with blank stares. However, on March 21st when the documentary hits theaters, more people will definitely know Ms. Hill's story.

Hill's testimony during the 1991 Senate hearings set off a firestorm of debates around race and sexism. President George Bush, Sr. nominated Thomas to the Supreme Court to replace Thurgood Marshall on the bench. During that time, Anita Hill's testimony to the FBI about sexual harassment she said she experienced while working with Thomas leaked to the press, calling for a series of hearings to investigate Thomas' character. However, many observers and critics have said that it seemed the one who was being investigated and "vilified" was Anita Hill.

Some of the accusations included, "leaving pubes on his soda cans just so he could ask about it aloud" and "chats about bestiality and his penis' nickname, among other things," as summarized by Jezebel.

More including a video of Ms. Hill: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/29/anita-hill-documentary_n_4688607.html

Gawd how I came to detest WY Sen. Alan Simpson in those hearings. Ironically, he looks sane compared to today's RW sexist idiots.

He did not control that hearing effectively at all and his failure to bring in those who would corroborate Hill's accusations was shameful.

But, he did not support Thomas, nor vote for him and has done a lot since then to support women. I think he learned from it--something Thomas' supporters would never do.

(I was on jury duty and spent my two weeks in the juror room waiting to be called, and hoping not to).

Joe Biden was way too impressed with Joe Biden and Joe Biden's cleverness as a former prosecutor to run the hearings.

do you suppose the broken promises and sequestered witnesses was simply an oversight?
some aide's mistake, perhaps?
Maybe we should watch the movie.
He's a made man, and Clarence Thomas WOULD NOT have made it if it werent for
Joe Biden.
the buck stops there.
Voted against him
yeah, thats pretty cute.
He replaced Thurgood Marshall with that sexual fetishist who was considered by WDC porn shop
proprietors to be their #1 customer.
This being relevant to the contentions over his lowbrow repetition of porn movie scenarios
in the workplace, to Anita herself.
Now, lets factor in the high powered smear machine that David Brock worked for and exposed.
We are talking about the Supreme Court, that went on to select the losing candidate in 2000.
and a series of similarly deadly decisions impacting our system of representation.
Its not a small oversight.
It was Biden's doing.
Even if he were rock stupid, he would still be
completely responsible.
Why do you suppose he was such suitable VP material?
A made man.

That Anita Hill was paid by the GOP to make the accusations.

I know,

Look at the times.
George Bush elder had won the presidency in a very racially-charged (hello, Willie Horton,) campaign.

And Thurgood Marshall, a black liberal, was retiring from the SC.

Bush wanted a conservative to replace him.
But all the qualified blacks were liberal.

Bush finds a borderline mediocre-to-incompetent conservative black.

Thomas' incompetency was on display big time, until Anita Hill popped up.
Then the whole proceedings devolved into "he said she said" about sex.

Then again, you could be wrong too.

No evidence. No facts. Just pure unadulterated woo. Making stuff up.

If you know what I mean.

But Woo Punching is obviously welcome on DU, therefore I know one and all will heartily approve of my Woo-Punching snark.

=========

Based upon the actual evidence, I conclude that Clarence Thomas was a royal republican pig, and unqualified to sit on the Supreme Court.

I was one of many women in her support group as she was making the decision to come forward. She is extremely shy and does not like attention but Biden's staff laid out a process that included the corroborating witnesses and did not include the slutty/nutty brigade.

Anita finally decided to proceed only to be isolated by Biden who failed to control the committee and instead allowed a public stoning. I will never forgive him for that.

Here's the opening schedule:
http://schedule.samuelgoldwynfilms.com/films/anita/

Here's a trailer:

As if Bush wasn't bad enough, we got Thomas.

On on a plane in the weeks shortly after Ms Hill testified, I was stunned to hear a couple of jacket and tie passengers apparently just having met, bonding over their assumption that women are usually lying about harassment. Wanted to puke, but where? I was younger and less jaded back then.

I hope with every cell of my being that this film opening in 2014 will lead to people questioning how it all went down, and shine a light on the repukes' disregard for truth. Thomas no doubt thought this was behind him. Let him stew.
