Adrienne Brown: Suit accuses Cincinnati officer of arresting rape victim instead of helping her

CINCINNATI - A woman who says she was raped is suing a Cincinnati police officer for arresting her instead of helping her.

The woman says Officer Adrienne Brown took her to the Justice Center instead of a hospital and cussed her and treated her as if she were a criminal. The suit says Brown charged the woman with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct while intoxicated.

"She put me under arrest. She put me in a car,” the woman said on WLW Radio.

She said Brown told her to “ ‘get your (expletive) hands up!’ ”

“I'm getting my hands up for what? I'm a victim," the woman said.

Cruiser cam video shows Brown driving and the woman in the back seat banging on the divider and yelling at Brown to let her out of the car.

“You should never be in a situation where you don’t know your limit because you’re drinking too much,” Brown yells back at her.

Then Brown plays loud music on the radio to drown out the woman’s cries.

After she was booked into the Justice Center, the woman was held in a restraining chair with a bag over her head, the suit says.

to be treated and so evidence can be collected? Then why bother the police if you don't want to provide evidence and information (like which cab company) so they can investigate?

Or is the article biased against the victim?

consciousness. Ya, think? Maybe that's what we need to teach girls and women. No matter how you've been traumatized, whether you're injured or not, act coherently and politely. Know what you want to do. Ignore all the info you've heard about the trauma of a rape trial and just be a good girl. If you have a concussion, pull yourself together and act as people expect.

In those shoes. Your attack on me is unnecessary. I was asking reasonable questions. I was physically traumatized, beat up, raped, robbed, threatened. Self preservation takes over, which usually involves getting police help and medical assistance.

If she appeared confused from a head injury, then obviously take the person to a hospital, no matter what they say.

Not wanting to go to the hospital means arrest?

Is it impossible for a rape victim to also commit a crime? If the video is as described in the article, it sounds like the officer was trying to provide assistance and the victim became a belligerent and combative drunk.

I never once advocated for that. I just asked some questions about the article where things weren't adding up.
