"The liberal media is pushing Hillary Clinton down our throats"

OK, so I went to the flea market this morning, it's outdoors in a parking lot, Saturday only.. It's somewhat warmer today after several bitterly cold weekends in a row so the place was fairly busy..

I was walking around looking at stuff and this old geezer in one of the booths had a pair of waterproof work boots and a small tent I was interested in. The tent had "Hillary" on the side of the storage tube, obviously after Sir Edmund Hillary. So I jokingly said something to him about knocking a couple of bucks off the price I'd already negotiated because no one wants a tent with Hillary on the side and he had a conniption fit screeching about the "liberal media pushing Hillary down our throats". Nearly strangled myself to keep from laughing out loud at him (hadn't done the deal yet and really wanted the boots).

So just to err.. mess with him I told him that I was online a lot and *all* the Democrats and liberals online thought Hillary was the perfect candidate for president and they were all pulling for her, ready to volunteer and donate.

I got my boots and left him in a fine state, the next buyer that comes along is going to get an earful.

....the Reich Wing and all their fellatio metaphors?

Couple that with their raging homophobia and I have a Shakespeare quote in mind for them.

In the same breath they'll denounce homosexuality as being completely disgusting, while using graphic language like that to describe what they would like to see happen to democratic politicians.

....always talking about "bending over and grabbing your ankles" and "taking it" and other such colorful metaphors. I mean, their imaginations run wild with this stuff. I guess that's their lens - and there should be nothing wrong with them having that lens except that they are engaged in self-defeating denialism.

It's more sad than anything else.

Rush has been through four wives and denounces those who have long lasting marriages. Just proves my theory.

3. Well, the old geezer could fit pretty well on DU.

How many OPs have there been here about Hillary being "pushed down our throats"?

The only difference is that the Right thinks that she's a Marxist, Socialist, she-devil; while the Left thinks that she's too far Right and a corporate shill. Somewhere in the middle may lay the truth.

By now, the whole thing is funny.

4. In my mind my OP was really more about "liberal media" than Hillary

Everyone knows she's the inevitable candidate, it's just that some use the term "liberal media" in an un-ironic way, mostly the ones who agreed with her IWR vote as Senator. Every time I hear that term used in a literal manner I really can't help myself, it's so damn humorous that I have to tweak the people who say it.

After talking to the guy for a couple of minutes I already knew where his buttons were and the name on the tent was just too good an opportunity for a little levity in the negotiating process to pass up. If he had knocked some money off the tent for my joke I'd probably have bought it.

I'm glad you found some additional humor in my word..

Good deal on the boots though, they're made for walking.

It's just that I have always found it ironic how similar DU and Free Republic are when it comes to the Clintons. They are both coming from different perspectives, but seem to meet in the middle in their derision and dislike of them.

What both sides fail to see, is that she has far stronger support by Democratic voters and Independents now than she did in 2008.

On one point I do agree with both sides. I dislike the media's push so early on. From all I've heard from people that are in the inner circle, Hillary has honestly not made up her mind yet about another run. The party pressure is on, as they think that she's their best bet to keep the WH in Democratic hands. The media piles on calling her "inevitable", then accusing her of playing the inevitable role and reminding her of 2008. Although they were the ones who pushed that meme in the first place. I see the same pattern now and it makes me nervous.

The media hyped her in 2005-early 2007. When Obama became a serious contender, they dropped her like a hot potato. I fear that the media is lifting her up again so early on, so that they may smack her down if she does choose to run.
