Kentucky House Speaker co-sponsors LGBT Bill

FRANKFORT, Ky -The Kentucky Speaker of the House, Greg Stumbo has signed on as a co-sponsor to the Fairness Bill.

A statewide fairness rally will be held in support of House Bill 171 which would extend discrimination protections in employment, housing, and public accommodations to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people.

The Rally will be held in the Capitol Rotunda Wednesday, February 19th at 1:30p.m., 700 Capital Avenue, 40601.

A third of the Democratic House Caucus has signed onto the bill.

But the bill still doesn't have a chance in hell of passing. Most Democrats in Kentucky are deathly afraid of even mentioning LGBT people, let alone standing up for our rights. Very rarely, somebody grows some backbone and does the right thing. Gov. Beshear vetoed a so-call "religious freedom" bill last year that LGBT groups recognized as a ploy for people to ignore local fairness ordinances.

The Democratic House of Representatives overrode the veto, along with the Republican Senate. Most Republicans here aren't the most rabidly homophobic people in the world, but most of the Democrats and Republicans in power refuse to take pro-gay positions out of fear.

I may not live in Kentucky anymore, but I travel there all the time I see things changing there faster than the State I live in now (Florida).
