His work in Dallas Buyer's Club and True Detective are a revelation, and reflect back on all the rom-com characters he was forced to play. Think of him in Dazed and Confused: he already stole that film, and his part was trifling, reducible to a line (I keep gettin' older and they keep stayin' the same).

There are many more. Clive Owen is silly good, but hasn't been given the range of roles to prove it.

... Dusk Till Dawn? (1996) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116367/

I watched it by accident, about a week ago, for the first time. (Late night, early morning red beers and chronic...) It's a Tarantino film. Good performances by the main characters, including George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Juliette Lewis, Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin and Harvey Keitel.

It's a surprisingly good film considering its alt grindhouse genre, but then, I like all Quentin Tarantino films. I really think this might be one of George Clooney's better performances.

Not a film for everyone. Check it out, Warren...

There were a lot of movies I watched in the 90s that I have only a hazy recollection of... probably not too hard to figure out why.

Perhaps one of these days I will revisit it. Thanks for the recommend!

...until it happened. What a twisty surprise. I'm not big on vampire/zombie movies so I'm pretty sure that had I known in advance, I'd have probably skipped it entirely... Glad I didn't. It was a Tarantino film that I'd never even heard of.

To any Friday night weekend warriors reading this subthread, --->> you should queue 'From Dusk till Dawn' into your party weekend 'B-Movie' mindless entertainment lineup...

I watched it a week or two ago. I meant that I didn't have a clue what it was about before I watched it. The vampire angle surprised me.

It was solid B movie, late night weekend entertainment.

Like the Howard Hughes thing it spent a good amount of time speculating on the psychology of the dude, which i found compelling.

He was born in the early 1960's. Russell Crowe would also be considered a Boomer. The cutoff for Gen Xer's is generally no early than 1966 and no later than 1976 or 1977.

I know many people don't like him any more because of the Scientology thing, but I personally don't care about that, he can believe anything he wants to.

And I have also heard he is super nice in real life, he is not like many big movie stars who are arrogant jerks.

I was not disparaging him, I was just pointing out that he was not a Gen Xer.

I personally have always enjoyed his body of work. The Last Samurai is still in my top 10 list of great films that I personally like.

I have some friends in the industry, and while I have never met him myself, I too have heard that he is a very nice man in real life despite his rather 'wanky' religious beliefs.
