Twain had to write his own material.

John just plays the video or quotes the actual shithead and lets the Repubs hang themselves. People actually say that shit!

John just reports it.

I love him.

but sometimes I think Colbert is even more scathing in his critique of modern politics. His method of subterfuge is pure brilliance. After all, when he first aired republicans thought he was one of them. His ability to play the role without letting up shows some real talent. After all, Jon Stewart plays is fairly straight.

Either way, Moyers is right. I view Stewart and Colbert as a team, and it's an hour of some of the smartest political writing anywhere to be found!

And then having that fire hose turn around and kick your ass. He's brilliant, but sometimes I just can't friggin' take it.

... thought it was really funny, but questioned how long he could keep the bit going. The mind boggles that he's been firing on all cylinders for going on 9 years, and you can probably count the number of times he's broken character on your fingers.

... What would be neat is if Hal Holbrook would come on The Daily Show in the guise of Mark Twain.
OR, Bill Moyers invite Jon Stewart in the personage of Mark Twain for the hour on Moyers and Co.

I so wish that Comedy Central has given John Oliver the lead-in time slot to The Daily Show. It would have been glorious!

speaking "truth to power" and everybody could laugh without being struck down...because, well you know, they are Jesters/Comedians.

Keith Olberman is an example of incisive political inconvenient facts, without the protection of being a comedian.

Rachel and her intense intelligence, wit, personal research and faultless delivery is, I think, the closest we have to a Left Liberal serious newsperson.

Can't wait for her special next Thursday.

14. Comedy Central Fills In For Our MSM, Which Is More Infotainment Than News Now

MSM asks virtually no hard questions and do very little follow up. More or less it's "one side says the earth is round, one says it's flat, we'll have to leave it there". False equivalency on parade.

Stewart, Colbert, and their brilliant writers skillfully expose the rampant hypocrisy in the US and elsewhere. Love Colbert's often used segment "The Word". Amazing that many conservatives thought Colbert was one of them, but then again they tend to be iron-y deficient.

I too wish they had been able to keep John Oliver and use him, he was awesome filling in for Stewart, but HBO has deep pockets. In the long run though, with the years piling up on Jon and his hair getting more gray, maybe once he leaves Oliver can take over for Stewart and keep the franchise going.

Already have my DVR set for Maddow's Thursday show, the cost of that ill advised war is staggering in dollars and lives lost and shattered. And - MSNBC has bloody hands from that period to be sure, they were cheerleaders for that war and fired their highest rated host because he dared question the rush to an unnecessary action.
