1.) The US and its allies have earned the ire of large proportions of the Russian people
and
2.) Putin would like to reassemble large portions of the USSR and keep Russia at or near the top in terms of World power and influence.
Point 1.) requires self-examination
Not so 2.)

(7,804 posts)I just don't think I'm going to bother waiting for the "GASP! THAT MEANS YOU HATE AMERICA!" (or similar) crowd to catch up and get real. "Noooooo, what I'm saying doesn't secretly imply what you need it to to make you feel good about yourself relative to it" is lost on them. There's plenty of people on this site that get more out of being argued with than making any good faith attempt to describe reality.
