Vietnam War Vets Sue Military Over PTSD Claims

The US military has failed to correct the discharges of Vietnam War veterans who developed post-traumatic stress disorder, resulting in loss of benefits, according to a federal lawsuit.

Five Vietnam veterans and three veterans organisations are suing the Army, the Navy and the Air Force in Connecticut.

The veterans say they suffered PTSD before it was recognised and were discharged under other-than-honourable conditions that made them ineligible for benefits.

The lawsuit, which seeks class-action status to represent tens of thousands of veterans, says the military has systematically denied applications for upgrades involving evidence of PTSD.

A Pentagon spokesman declined to address the allegations, saying the department does not comment on pending litigation.

I believe PTSD is a real thing but is abused greatly. I personally know several Vietnam vets that claim PTSD and they were REMFs. There is no real test to prove one way or another whether one is truly "shell shocked" as it used to be called. Although I would much rather money be spent on these ex soldiers than on new bombs and bullets that go to create more PTSD claims.
