Happy Mardi Gras, everybody!

Carnival season is my favorite time of the year, and of course Mardi Gras is my favorite day. I usually go over to New Orleans during Carnival for one day at least, but I didn't make it this year. I'll be at the Biloxi Mardi Gras all day today, though.

Mardi Gras in Biloxi is more about connecting with old friends than about going to parades and catching trinkets. There will be 100+ floats for the parade, but I don't know if I'll even go look at the floats. Mardi Gras is the only time of year that I see a lot of my friends, so we'll be busy catching up all day. We eat, drink, and forget about our worries. A lot of people think that Mardi Gras is all about showing body parts and catching beads, but it's so much more than that.

I think everybody in the world needs to have a time of the year like Carnival. One of my friends calls Carnival season a safety valve. You can let yourself go this one time of year and then go back to the old grind after it's over. My friend (who is from Ohio) says it's a wonderful time, and a smart thing to do. See if you can have yourself a little Mardi Gras of your own today.
