Kentucky AG bows out of marriage case
By Steve Benen
Just last week, a federal judge in Kentucky issued a final ruling that requires the state to recognize same-sex marriages performed in states where it is legal. Kentuckys constitutional amendment on the issue, Judge John Heyburn ruled, violates state residents the right to equal protection under the law.
The courts decision would ordinarily fall to the state Attorney Generals office to appeal in order to defend state law, but as it turns out, thats not going to happen.
Conway told reporters he prayed over what to do and decided to put people over politics. He added, I can only say that Im doing what I think is right.
Coincidentally, hes doing what U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder thinks is right, too.

Kentucky will hire outside attorneys to appeal a federal judges ruling requiring Kentucky to recognize same-sex marriages from outside the state, Gov. Steve Beshear said Tuesday.
His announcement came minutes after a tearful Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway said his office will not appeal the ruling, calling it a waste of taxpayers money.
Conway told reporters he prayed over what to do and decided to put people over politics. He added, I can only say that Im doing what I think is right.
Coincidentally, hes doing what U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder thinks is right, too.

Apparently, Governor Beshear is scared shitless of the Neanderthal, religious right in this state.

(67,101 posts)3. It's really IMO the Civil Rights of the 60's all over again, just different victims this
time around. I really believe it is organically endemic in some people to have to have something to hate and persecute. LGBT provides an easy target for these hateful creatures. They mask it with religion, family values, etc., but really, underneath, they love hatred and persecution. For some, it's a sadistic sport.

(13,461 posts)7. I agree
Some people always have to try to make up how they are "better" than someone else. Sick.
