Abby Martin became something of an internet folk hero Monday after she publicly condemned Vladimir Putins military intervention into Ukraine on her Kremlin-backed, English-language RT program Breaking the Set. Declaring her editorial independence from the Russian regime, she said into the camera: What Russia did is wrong.
As it turns out, Martin is also an avid 9/11 Truther conspiracy theorist. The New York Times Robert Mackey outed Martin on The Lede blog Tuesday afternoon, revealing her role in the 9/11 Truth movement, whose members hold that the official history of the terrorist attacks is a cover for a concealed government conspiracy.
In his post, Mackey includes the below video of Martin discussing her views while marching in a 9/11 Truth demonstration in Santa Monica, California on October 11, 2008. Ive researched it for three years and every single thing that I uncover solidifies my belief that it was an inside job and that our government was complicit in what happened.

(11,366 posts)I believe there were planes and buildings feel, but I'd have to be stupid to believe every last work the Bush Administration said about 9/11. One can seek the truth without being a nut.

(8,361 posts)one would be a belief that Martians are about to attack. Another one would be that there is a giant conspiracy in which the U.S. government was responsible for 9/11 attacks instead of the al queda terrorists.

(3,829 posts)of her anti-war views concerning Russia? We're not taking her viewpoint as an authority on the Russian aggression. We're just praising her bravery on speaking out against Russia. She deserves the praise.
There are numerous war-mongers that are against the "truth" movement. Does that call into question their ant-"truther" views? War-mongers are much worse than "truthers", by orders of magnitude.

(39,405 posts)in the Joint Congressional Inquiry into 9/11, and 9/11 Commission staffers went on record saying they were told to change their findings on that topic as well.
Since our war in Afghanistan was based on 9/11, it would have been nice to know if there was a more appropriate country to blame, like the one that funded and shepherded the attackers according to other declassified documents.
We we attacked by an ally and our government did nothing. Someone should be able to ask why without being called a mental patient.

(25,592 posts)Not the people that have a problem with the obvious lies of the bu$h administration in the run up to the Iraq invasion, in which 9/11 was the starting bell. The planing for both came well before, and they are connected behind the scenes.

(12,618 posts)That there are intelligent, sane, courageous, good people out there who aren't crazy and have, through intelligent analysis, come to the conclusion that the events of 9-11 just don't add up to what our government says actually happened?
Nah, that couldn't be it. She must be a freak. Like all those other people out there who don't swallow everything the impeccably honest Bush administration and United States government tells them. It's not like the Bush administration lied us into a war or anything.

(7,707 posts)James Kirchick, was on Lawrence O'Donnell's show tonight, and he said the same about her, including calling her stand a "managed" dissent, she speaks her 60 seconds of "dissent" but that doesn't counter what she does everyday on her show, which is spout Kremlin propaganda. He called her a lunatic, a conspiracy theorist, a 9-11 truther, a believer that water fluoridation is a government conspiracy, compared Israel to Nazi Germany. He went on to say that now RT will be able to use the moment of 'pseudo dissent', and say, 'Look, we're a legitimate news network, we have differing points of view, and that's really not the case for anyone who watches RT.
Also had on Miriam Elder, foreign correspondent of Buzzfeed, lived in Russia for seven years. She backed him up in the managed dissent analysis of Kirchick. She also added that Russia doesn't actually see Russia Today. It's for American viewing, and the brave stand this journalist took isn't what it looks like. She used the example of Jared Leto's Oscar speech that Russia censored when it aired there.
