Jon Boyer is probably going to take a lot of heat for this -- were sorry, Jon. But its really our duty to report your utter fabulousness and rock-star status as an animal rescuer. Not that the ladies of Baltimore need any reminding, apparently.
Homeless and injured animals seem to have something of a magnetic attraction to Boyer, whos a Baltimore police officer. He says police rescue cats and dogs all the time -- comes with the job. But hes a little flummoxed that his occasional drop-off at the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) has also made him a magnet for instantly lovestruck women. Theres apparently something about a handsome guy cuddling a little creature that makes the female heart go pitter-pat.
Its kind of weird, he says, taking some good-natured ribbing from his partner in their patrol car. Its been a little different. I wasnt expecting this, being a police officer.
It all started about a year ago, when someone at BARCS snapped a photo of Boyer with a kitten hed rescued, and sent it to the folks at Baltimore's Show Your Soft Side (SYSS) campaign, which works to help abused pets.

(14,040 posts)doing some exploring in some not so nice neighborhoods (I take pictures of abandoned buildings). There was a cop patrolling the neighborhood and was looking at my friend and I for a while from a stop sign. After we snuck out of an abandoned building there was an older RV just sitting across the street that I had to photograph, at this point, my smaller, inconspicuous camera's battery died, so I had to pull out the big gun (I don't usually do that in sketchy neighborhoods). I'm clicking away and I notice a car pull up behind me and stop. I finish my shot (priorities, I got 'em) and turn around.
It's the same cop from earlier. He asks if I'm interested in buying the RV and I say, "Heck no! I just wanna photograph it." He asks why my friend and I are out there taking pictures and I say, "To document Baltimore!" Tells me to be careful and says if I have any questions, to let him know. Of course, I couldn't be like, "You know anymore abandoned buildings my friend and I can trespass in?" So I thanked him and he went on his way.
The moral to this entire story? I think he was looking out for us. I think he knew exactly why we were there and what we had been doing and stuck around to make sure we were okay. You're right, we post stories about bad cops all the time but there are some good ones out there. Too few but they're there.
