GetEQUAL Issues Travel Alert In Mississippi For LGBT Travelers

Nice MS, really classy, guess this is why your're the top state, NOT.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/06/mississippi-anti-gay_n_4914565.html

GetEQUAL Mississippi alerts those traveling to the state of a continued risk of discrimination based upon sexual orientation and/or gender identity. The State of Mississippi does not currently protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (“LGBT”) people from being legally ejected from their hotel rooms or other places of public accommodation, and is on the cusp of passing legislation that would give business owners even more latitude to legally discriminate against minority groups.
Those who are required to travel to Mississippi are encouraged to take the following precautions:

- Avoid traveling alone in the state.
- Only book travel at hotels which have policies prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
- Visit only known LGBT-friendly establishments, including restaurants, bars and venues.
- Be aware of your surroundings and adopt other appropriate safety measures to protect yourself while traveling.

GetEQUAL Mississippi will continue to monitor this situation and update travelers as needed.

sad to say....
Mississippi was bad enough 10-15 years ago, but this new polarity in the country is very dangerous for all sorts of minorities. And Mississippi seems to always lead the other states in knee jerk violence.

the core hatred is pretty much the same. The violence makes no sense. People direct irrational hatred toward others for ridiculous and horrific reasons. I've traveled around the US many miles over the past few years and often one can feel the hatred in the air. Some places one can feel it just stopping at quick places to eat, get gas, etc. ... you don't look quite like us, you don't dress quite like us, you're dressed too well, and sometimes what church do you go to, etc.

It seems to be present in pockets in many states.

Yes, I certainly agree with you on MS, I could add a couple of more states, but I won't. MS seems quite proud of their backwardness. I think many remain naive about the hostilities in the US, often under the surface. And, we have the haters on TV, the Internet and some pastors that spread the flames of hatred for profit, and some for the sake of hatefulness and their perverse enjoyment. Years ago, one had to go looking for irrational hostilities, now, it just finds one.

I don't remember it this way years ago traveling around the US. I find the polarization today significant and quite sad.

They know how to do up the hate, the history is strong and the habits hard to break.

love their hatred in MS. I've watched some videos of it before and it just amazes me how some people build up hatred about everything it seems.

In some companies I've worked for they gave special consideration to personnel, for various reasons, that basically had to do a tour of duty in some places. I guess I was naive, I thought OMG, they have to entice people to work in some places with special benefits for say 2 years or so.

All LGBTs should take these advisories seriously.

How disgusting is it that we should even have to worry about this.

often just don't get it, they don't seem to see the silent hostilities around them, the glares, the stares, the under the breath comments waiting to burst out into violence, and this is not just for lgbt, but for anyone not perceived as 'one of them.'

sometimes people feel, well, it's just them, but they don't get that some aspects of their lives might not fit with the culture of hatred, and then suddenly find themselves on the list for hatred.

Some love the culture of hatred and are always looking for targets IMO. I think all states have pockets of hatred, but in some it really rises to the top because of the fools they elect into office.

And, the culture of hatred is really reinforced by the hate mongers on TV, radio, the Internet and some pastors and others with their seductive hatred for profit and others for the sheer love of hatred.

I also think for many, they feel their hatred makes them superior to others, when in fact the former, are the wastes and losers in life IMO.
