(159 posts)I found you searching for "Limbaugh asshole" back about 97 and got hooked on your page. You have made many many people laugh for years and years.
People might not know this but he is a really nice person in person and Mrs Bart. I'm still in kind of shock over this and so is my wife that attended the las vegas fest.

I hope all who express their respect for Terry remember to extend a helping hand to his beloved wife. Help is needed for medical bills and final expenses. Send a sympathy card with your contribution in memory of a man who was a shining example to us all, to:

(38,613 posts)For the past year I have been terrible at keeping up with his site, and making donations. Just two days ago I made a fair-sized Amazon purchase and forgot to use his link, and felt bad about it.
This sucks
but I finally got a donation off to him last month.

(4,452 posts)One of Barts last requests was to make sure Mrs Bart wouldn't be put out on the street.
Besides the mortgage the medical bills would break most of us.
If you have a few bucks to spare, keep sending them.
I have no idea how big the bills are but every little bit will help.

(38,311 posts)A danger to myself and others.
No, not because I might drive or operate dangerous machinery, but because I might not hold my tongue.
Sort of like my mom in church.
My "Big Catholic Wedding" was terrifying but my dad and my brothers distracted the Priest with fishing and airplane flying stories. The rest of my relatives, not all "straight," distracted with music and flowers.
At the rehearsal my sister-in-law warmed up the Catholic Sisters and choir with Bohemian Rhapsody on the church organ.
And my crazy wild west grandma, buried Kosher in a plain wooden box with a Star of David on it, not fit for any church or temple ever, engaged younger people in harmless flirtation and did not cause trouble. Party girl to the end, she was.
Her life was set in World War II. Welder by day, party girl by night. My grandpa was just a welder. Long, long. long hard days, go home an sleep. Wake up, do it again. Sadly, he never escaped that lifestyle. My grandma did, but not in a good way. Her most glorious moment fighting off the police and paramedics and living to tell the story.

On his site he asks for donations to help Mrs Bart through this difficult time. I'm due to resubscribe to DU, but think I'll send the money Bart's way instead. Without him, I wouldn't be here. And though I haven't read him as often in recent years as I did in 2001, I still looked in from time to time and was always entertained. I'm just sorry he never got his opportunity to debate Rush.

(675 posts)The last few days didn't sound good, but I was hoping he'd pull through. I remember him from the early days on the Prodigy politics boards during the election of Bill Clinton. Discussions were pretty heated but Bart (Terry, then) gave as good as he got. I was impressed with the ways he would get around the board censors to direct a well-timed shot at the right wingers ("blome" stands out in particular).
RIP, Bart.

(4,400 posts)History of how BartCop Started
By Marc Perkel
It was about 18 years ago in 1996 when one day someone forwarded an email from an email publication that Terry was writing called "Rush Limbaugh Lying Nazi Whore - Issue #45.
http://www.bartcop.com/0045.htm
It was so funny I was rolling on the floor trying to breathe. It was during the 1996 presidential election and poor Bob Dole was trying to eak out a win over the Big Dog. This part was the part that put me on the floor.
I have a satellite dish. I caught some audio of Dole after the show. The caterer brought some food in. "Bob Dole wants a diet Coke," he said. "Bob Dole wants a Hot Dog!"
Someone, maybe a kid serving the food, asked Dole if he wanted mustard on his Hot Dog.
Bob Dole said: "Well, I feel that's it's my view that mustard is certainly one of the options we're looking at. We're looking at a number of options, actually. There's lot of condiments... ketchup, for instance. Some like it, some don't....
That's not up to the federal government to decide. Those decisions are best made locally ...the states. Some people talk about relish, relish... is...
Cheese! Lot of cheese lovers in America..... Perhaps we'll go with mustard, but we haven't made a final determination on that, haven't decided... It might come down to a situation where we have some ketchup and some mustard...we'll know soon..."
Mrs. Dole interrupted and said:
"Bob Dole has always supported mustard on Hot Dogs. Bob Dole has been, and continues to be pro-mustard. Mustard has a friend in Bob Dole."
I had just put up a web server and was looking for interesting things to publish. So I tracked down the author and called him on the phone. He was somewhat surprised that I found him but I explained that I wanted to take his collection and make web pages out of it. He didn't even know what a web page was at first but he agreed. For the first few years he would just email his list and I would add the page every time I got one of his emails. Eventually he learned just enough to barely put together a web page and started doing it himself.
Bart was one of the first and most successful liberal bloggers. Back then Bart and I were big fish in a small pond. We inspired many other liberal web sites that became far more successful an influential. We became small fish in a big pond. But Bart stayed with it for 18 years swinging the hammer of truth. People who were born the year Bart started are now old enough to vote. He created a community and lots of people know each other through him. I believe he changed history in significant ways that will some day be discovered by supercomputers in the future. But for now we will all miss him.
