turning the planet into a real-life version of "hell". That was in the original series as well, but the amazing special effects this time really got the point across.

I couldn't get through it because the pacing was so slow by today's standards.
But it was elegant.

I think a lot of the narration of this new version are Sagan's original words which were quite poetic and the conceit of watching the universe from the deck of a spacecraft was Sagan's original concept.

I think reworking it was essential but I'm glad they are keeping the heart of his original series.

Just the big picture. If you missed it, I posted an overview of the six acts.

It was very good and I can tell that Seth MacFarland is going to cut loose. This was merely the overture to the opera. The real action is yet to come.

But I imagine that the Republican theocrats already have their shorts in a bunch. You'll see.

Clever way of doing it, thoiugh I kind of expected the "Lets back way the hell out and have a look" approach, as he had insinutated something along those lines in a recent interview.

Extremely well done though, no doubt.

Like others have mentioned elsewhere, I had a nice lump in my throat at the end when he related his visit with Carl Sagan .

They are two different things. The only thing they have in common is the name, Fox. So relax. Breath. Catch your breath.

Remember, the Fox Network programs The Simpsons and The Family Guy (Also produced by Seth McFarland). I don't think Republicans like those shows too much.

Cosmos on Fox will get a bigger audience than Cosmos on PBS, I would think. They've been promoting the Hell out of it for months. Adverts, multiple times per hour. All day and all night.

standing in front of his audience, he said basically, 'if the moment this planet was formed is represented by the center of my necktie, and I hold out my arm with fingers extended as being the time from then till now, most of the way up to my elbow was little more than bacteria and single cell organisms. The Dinosaurs showed up, dominated the planet and were wiped out between this point in the middle of my forearm and about 2 or 3 inches further out.'

'All of human history, every single bit of human civilization, all the authors, scientists, philosophers, kings, princes, wars, art, literature, architecture.......EVERYTHING....is represented by the dust created by one swipe of a nail file on my middle finger.'

Looks like next week will be the "evolution" episode. I can't wait.

Carl Sagan's show has always been a fond memory. This is an extraordinary successor.
