House cat attacks baby, leads owners to barricade in a bedroom

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police had to be called in to subdue a 22-pound (10-kilogram) house cat that trapped its owners inside their bedroom after attacking their baby.

The baby was not injured in the Sunday incident.

Sgt. Pete Simpson, a Portland Police Bureau spokesman, said officers responded to an emergency call that evening from a couple who had locked themselves in their bedroom with the baby and their dog after the cat attacked the child.

Simpson said the operator could hear the cat screeching in the background as the couple awaited help.

LOL RIP fat cat! How many times does this have to happen before they end it? How can they risk the child being terribly injured like getting his eyes put out or some nasty feline disease caused by cat scratches.? Some people have no foresight or brains. This story makes me mad at people. I don't care how much they love the cat...it's dangerous. Well, I do care, but.............

Cat attacked their child, has a history of violence, chased the homeowners into their bedroom and continued to screech and threaten while they called the police from behind locked doors, and yet. . . and yet, they keep the cat in their home.

I can't think of what to say about that. I just hope that child makes it to majority with both eyes intact and not too horribly disfigured.

Even then, I wouldn't want an animal with a history of violence around my children.

According to a cat breeder website, Himalayans, or "Himmies," are "perfect indoor companions but they possess a playful side."

He may be half himmie, like a cat I once had. A pure himmie has blue eyes and coloring like a Siamese, but the body shape, long hair, and face like a Persian. Like this seal point himmie:

My cat was blue and white, with copper eyes. His mother was a himmie (I forget what color her points were), and the father unknown. Interestingly, my cat, too, could be a real brat when he felt like it.

Where we live. 2 males one female, and all fixed. The males sometimes bug the female, but our bully cat will lick the females ears and face, but when he wants outside, he starts bullying the other male who out weighs the bully cat by 4 pounds. I break it up when I'm around. None of them have ever held me hostage.
