Ron Hague will never understand why someone would want his sister Carolyn to die like this.My sister was a good woman, he said. Ive been going over my mind why didnt the fire alarms go off.
Firefighters discovered the bodies of Carolyn Hague and her girlfriend Crystal Ann Ward after putting out the flames that engulfed their Placerville home on Friday.
Both were found in their bed. Three days later, Ron would learn they had been shot to death.

Hell Hath No Fury
(16,327 posts)Is a predominately white, RW old mining town that does have a minority progressive population. Anti-abortion rallies across the main highway are common. Guns are rampant.
My Mom and I have been considering a move there -- this is not the kind of news I want to hear.
In further reading, there may be a domestic slant to this story -- hopefully authorities will get to the bottom of this story.

(16,327 posts)I saw that.
I knew a female couple up in Redding many years ago who were murdered. I fear reading about more of this stories now that marriage equality is becoming a reality and more RW folks freak out in response.

(12,325 posts)They just seem like country folk who loved animals and had lots of friends.
So sad.

They had been together for more than two years.
They were, I found out yesterday, they were having problems, Ron said. They were fighting. Not physical, but they were fighting.
Ron believes what happened inside the home that deadly night was no random crime, but he says hell leave investigators to solve the case.

To anyone thinking of this area as redneck conservative right wing country, let me please correct you! My wife and I moved here (lesbians) a couple of years ago, thinking the same thing and worrying about it. We have found that, even though there are Tea Party Meeting signs on the side of the road, ALL of the people we have met up here are completely supportive. We haven't encountered a single incident of homophobia, and everyone has been kind.
It is a small community, and some of the people that live here tend to be a little quirky. I believe this is why it is such an accepting environment. We are very active here - are friends with all the neighbors on our street, frequent the local restaurants and shops, where the proprietors and staff have gotten to know us, and feel welcomed everywhere we go.
Because of the smallness of this rural community, many people around here knew these women, and are expressing shock, disbelief and grief over the situation. It's reported a lot that they kept to themselves, but there were many people who boarded their livestock at their ranch, and they were well-respected members of the community.
At this time, there is some speculation that it could have been a murder-suicide, but based upon comments from people who are close to the investigation, I am hearing that they have not found the murder weapon yet (which would have been at the scene if it were a murder-suicide), and that some of the animals in the house were shot (and according to those that knew them, they were extreme animal lovers and never would have done that).
Because I live here, my wife and I have both been worried about this story. I hope that, if it is a murder, they catch the murderer and soon. In the meantime, we are being extra vigilant about locking our doors and setting all our alarms at night.
