ACLU, Gay Couples Seek Fla. Marriage Recognition

Eight gay couples and the American Civil Liberties Union have filed a federal lawsuit seeking to force Florida to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

ACLU of Florida Executive Director Howard Simon said Thursday that same-sex couples suffer discrimination in many ways. Examples include problems getting spouses covered by health insurance, difficulties with inheritance rules and problems with workers' compensation benefits.

The lawsuit names Gov. Rick Scott and other top Florida officials. It asks a judge to declare Florida's refusal to recognize same-sex marriages as unconstitutional. The lawsuit also wants a ruling requiring the state to recognize the marriages.

Earlier this year, another lawsuit challenged Florida's constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.

1. Excellent! These laws make a mockery of equality! They are unconstitutional and promote

discrimination and persecution, and for what, for the haters in life, those that just have to hate something and LGBT provides a nice hate target for them and also their creepy one-upmanship.

2. Can't get a Florida Driver's License

in your married name if gay marriage from another state. That has happened where I live in Naples.

3. It all gets just so absolutely ridiculous and absurd. It's a constant WTF to me, if two people

want a committed life together why should the state feel a right to interfere with that, other than their apparent feeling that they need as a state to promote persecution, discrimination and hatred.

transplants and retirees from other states, as more and more states pass Marriage Equality.
