(4,788 posts)Oh dear. Let's see - no, first, the ancient Egyptians didn't worship Ba'al per se, although individuals and a few pharaohs may have offered a prayer and some incense and food to Ba'al when they were in the area, just to make nice. They knew about Him, but he was a God of another people, not Egyptian. Ba'al simply means "Lord" in Canaanite. There were several Gods named Ba'al, for example Ba'al Haddad, the Lord of Thunder, is the Canaanite storm God, and Ba'al Hammon is the vegetation God. It's not clear if all Gods named Ba'al are the same God, just different aspects of Him, although I would tend to doubt it. Ba'al is cognate with Hebrew's 'El - Lord - as both Canaanite and Hebrew are Semitic languages. And as for the Egyptians and Phoenicians sailing to America, cruising the waterways and leaving petroglyphs that 'claimed' the land for Ba'al, 'El or the Netcheru (a rough transliteration of the Egyptian word for "Gods" , no, not just NO, but HELL NO with sprinkles on top. Where do these people get this shit? I find it amusing that some Christians are trying to turn things into a legal case, sort of like the Job story.
