Russian diplomat 'stabbed' in Ottawa fight

A Russian diplomat was found stabbed following a drunken quarrel in Ottawa, Canada, according to local media.

The 44-year-old man was taken to hospital in stable condition on Friday morning. Another man is in police custody but has not been charged.

A spokesman for Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs told the BBC there was no indication the attack was "politically motivated".

The Russian Embassy in Canada has declined to comment on the incident.

Police and paramedics were called shortly before 09:00 local time (13:00 GMT) on Friday to a residential building in a neighbourhood of Canada's capital with several embassies.

The victim, who paramedics believed was intoxicated, was in the lobby of the building when they arrived and initially refused treatment, the Ottawa Citizen reported.

He had been stabbed in the arm and the back and was transported to hospital for treatment.

I have no one on ignore as there is no one I cannot have a discussion with unless they are too afraid of discussion.

The man told paramedics the injuries he suffered were from dog bites and initially refused treatment.

The man eventually allowed paramedics to treat him before he was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Tactical paramedics found a second injured man in the apartment building.

Police said a man was put in handcuffs at the scene, but they could not confirm if they were arrested.

A source tells the Citizen the two men got into a fight earlier in the morning.

This is the craziest story--it's like a soap opera! The naked person was Canadian Forces! The cops thought it was an espionage thing but apparently it was more pedestrian than that...

OTTAWA — Police are investigating a bizarre stabbing that left a Russian diplomat lying about his wounds and an employee of the Canadian Forces naked inside an Ottawa apartment.

Man charged after Russian diplomat stabbed

Naked Forces member found at bloody scene in Ottawa building

....Around midnight, acting Sgt. Eric Beaurivage said police had charged Kevin Martin, 32, with aggravated assault in the case. He was expected to be in court early Saturday morning ...the victim is co-operative. “He’s co-operating. We’re continuing to investigate,“ Beaurivage said. “It’s hard to say because he’s sleeping now.”

Paramedics responded to the Rio Vista Apartments at 400 Stewart St. — the home of many embassy employees — just before 9 a.m. Friday to find the 44-year-old diplomat stabbed in the back and slashed on his arms.

Despite the nature of his injuries, the man, who police have not named, told paramedics that he was nothing more than the victim of an angry dog. He refused treatment, and not politely.

Once Ottawa police arrived, they followed the blood from the lobby into the elevator, then into an apartment unit. There they found a bloodied and naked member of the Canadian Forces, and a knife lying close enough for them to start asking the kinds of questions that needed answers......the diplomat and another man were drinking inside an apartment when an argument broke out. The man pulled a knife on the diplomat and started to slash him, forcing him to flee to the lobby.

68. The early reports did sound like a bar fight...then it sounded like an apartment party...

then a lover's quarrel/assignation disagreement...

But I think a lot of people would have loved to be a fly on the wall to figure that thing out! One thing we know for sure, we've got two drunk guys, one's stabbed, one naked and injured in an undefined way, one's a Russian diplomat, the other is a member of Canadian Forces! And there may have been handcuffs!

If you wrote a movie with these scenes written in, you'd get pushback from the producer because it would be too "obvious" or "trite" or "formulaic!"

this headline.. I was thinking there were some kind of "Naked Forces" in Canada. I know that sounds silly but that's the way I read it. I kept checking to understand that..

I hear ya.. "obvious" or "trite" or "formulaic!".. Life imitates formulaic art!

One's a nasty drunk.

then you're....waaaaaaah....discriminating!!

It's absolute madness. I'm sure the same folks with hair on fire about people being mean to the "poor drunken Russian diplomat who said his knife wounds were dog bites" would have an absolute high-blood-pressure shitfit reading this article on the wonders of their favorite news outlet, too...

RT America, by the accounts of the former and current employees with whom BuzzFeed spoke, has a strategy of hiring very young reporters who are eager to break out of small markets and want to cover international news. And the channel pays relatively well, more than most 22- or 23-year-olds expect to make in journalism. One former employee said a correspondent starting out could make as much as $50,000 or $60,000.
“They’ll hire really young people and you almost feel like you’re working in a mini-CNN-type situation,” the former reporter said. “You’re not covering snowstorms or the puppy parade. You’re doing stories that are a lot bigger and meatier.”
“I was fresh out of college when I got the job offer,” another former RT employee said in an email. “The prospect of working in D.C. and not going to some small town to start my career was appealing.”
“They hire young and mold you into the ‘journalist’ they want you to be,” the former employee wrote. “Blinded by ambition, eager to please and quite frankly inexperienced. That or they looked for people who shared RT’s agenda (like Abby Martin).” Martin, who has been involved in the 9/11 Truth movement and whose show frequently delves into other conspiracy theories, was hired after RT noticed her independent coverage of Occupy Oakland in 2011 and was given her own opinion show....But even when they leave, RT stays with them: Staffers sometimes have trouble finding jobs at legitimate outlets. “That’s been a challenge,” one former staffer said.

If some of the RT shills here aren't getting paid, they should!
