An example of how the health care system is messed up(not ACA or even insurance related)...

So, yesterday, my fiancee got a medical bill from January of this year, to the tune of 800 dollars, its from the hospital she was at to get an MRI done. The issue is that she was covered by Medicaid at that time, and from what we can tell, the hospital didn't process it correctly through Medicaid.

My fiancee was puzzled because this bill matches another she received a week ago from the Orthopedic office she goes to, same amount, different department, basically, and same issue, didn't process it through Medicaid.

The worst part is this, Medicaid will only accept reprocessing if its within 30 days of the procedure being done, the MRI was done on January 14, we though it was paid for, and we don't know about this till March? Are you effing kidding me?

So technically we owe a hospital and a doctor's office 1600 dollars total(about 800 each), for no reason that we can discern. Oh, and she just got a bill from her Primary care doctor, apparently her office didn't process her doctor visit through Medicare now, since that is now her primary insurance.

So basically she gets to make a ton of phone calls in the next week or so to try to get this straightened out, or these unpaid medical bills will be put on top of the pile of unpaid medical bills she already has.

for wrist surgery I had back in May...it was paid and according to the EOB I do not owe anything. The office made clerical errors in filing and then submitted it to the insurance company....Today is the third time I have had to have them contact the collection agency to prove to them that the bill is PAID in full and I owe them nothing. The insurance company and I think that this is part of the business model. Make the patient feel like the Insurance company has paid and now you owe some money...here is the bill. DO NOT pay any bill that is coming from a collection agency UNTIL you have contacted your insurance company. This has prevented me from paying almost 2 thousand (so far).
