SNOQUALMIE, Wash. (AP) - As King County sheriff's detectives try to identify a newborn found dead near Snoqualmie they've started calling it Baby Kimball Doe.
Sgt. Cindi West says the name comes from the Kimball bridge near where the body was found Feb. 12 about 10 feet off a road. The baby was full term and the umbilical cord still attached.
The sheriff's office has released photos of two towels found with the body, hoping for tips from the public that would lead to identification. One is a faded Target brand black bath towel with a pattern of squares on one side and rectangles on the other. The other is a Chick Pea brand burping towel.
Short story, well within the 4 paragraph limit. Link is here:

It was reported only this week on a local television station as a newborn baby boy. He was left alive in the snow and died from the cold.

(10,597 posts)... Do they have the law in Washington state where people can take their baby to the hospital and leave it, no questions asked? What a heartless desperate thing to do. That mother must not have a soul. There are probably many childless couples who would have adopted that baby right there in the same county.

(53,661 posts)Perhaps she was among the homeless in that area and a number sleep in impromptu places in the forests around there or hideouts where they try to get some sleep. There is a drug problem in the area.
The area has become more income stratified over time, with more wealthy landowners and exclusiveness and cut backs in social services.
Also the church influence is more conservative. That area is getting to be very Republican when it was once a nice area. I know a number of people who left because it had gone hard right socially.
Not saying people out there are that bad, but the attitudes out there have changed. And the woman or girl who had that baby was a victim of that. It's not like Seattle where there are social services available.
This person may have been disconnected from society. But my point was that a dog knows better than some people. At least the dog in the OP wasn't fooled by the people around it into giving up a life to survive in a crazy world. The dog was clear thinking.
BTW, it is legal to drop off a baby that is 72 hours or less at a hospital or fire station with personnel there. There is no penalty. But that area is in the country, and the mother may not have had a way to get there or was intimidated into not going for help.
For all we know, she may be dead.

(10,597 posts)... is the fact that I have identical twin great nephews who were 5 weeks premature and who are 5 months old tomorrow. They are little dolls, both the spitting image of their mother when she was a baby. Niece sends me text photos of them about every other day. Cute as buttons and spunky personalities just like their mother. Won't get my hands on them until this summer at family reunions when niece and hubby returns for a visit. The news of this poor abandoned baby just rips my heart out, as well as the plight of it's parents.
