MH370: Australia suspends aerial searches, Norwegian freighter at possible crash site
Norwegian car carrier Hoegh St. Petersburg has reached the area in the southern Indian Ocean off Australia where two floating objects, suspected to be debris from the missing Malaysian jetliner, were spotted, the ship owners said on Thursday. Höegh Autoliners, the vessel owner and the Norwegian Shipowners Association held a press conference this afternoon in Oslo to confirm the Norwegian ship was already in the area Thursday morning, 2600 km offshore the Australian city of Perth. The ship was asked to go to a specified area of 100km, where the ship is based since 09h00.
The Australian Royal Navy has sent a HMAS Success warship to the area, after suspending the aerial searches this Thursday, due to bad weather. Uk has send also a survey ship, HMS Echo to participate in the search operations.
Search aircraft and ships are investigating two objects floating in the southern Indian Ocean off Australia that could be debris from a Malaysian jetliner missing for 12 days with 239 people on board, officials said on Thursday.
Australian officials said the objects were spotted by satellite four days ago in one of the remotest parts of the globe, around 2,500 km (1,500 miles) southwest of Perth in the
vast oceans between Australia, southern Africa and Antarctica.
