Poll: Majority Opposes Employer Exemption From Birth Control Mandate
As the Supreme Court gets ready to hear two landmark cases next week about the constitutionality of Obamacare's birth control mandate, a majority of Americans say they oppose allowing employers to opt out of offering contraceptives even under religious objections.
According to a a NBC/WSJ survey released Wednesday, 53 percent of Americans say employers should not be exempt from the mandate, while 41 percent say they should be exempt.
The poll finds some generational differences on the issue. Forty nine percent of seniors say employers shouldn't be exempt, while 40 percent say they should be exempt. Respondents age 18-34, however, say employers shouldn't be exempt by a 62 percent-to-33 percent margin.
The March 5-9 survey of 1,000 adults has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1% percentage points.
