Sign the petition to Senate Democrats, Don't cave to NRA re: Dr. Murthy for Surgeon General

President Obama’s nominee for U.S. Surgeon General is in jeopardy—and the reasons will infuriate you.

Sign the petition to Senate Democrats: Don’t cave to the NRA. Give Dr. Vivek Murthy a fair confirmation vote—judging him on the issues that matter.

The NRA is bullying Democratic senators who have tough re-election battles in November, and it is working. 10 Democrats have refused to support Murthy's confirmation, and one plans to vote “no.”

Dr. Vivek Murthy personally supports gun control, but there is NOTHING he can do about it as U.S. Surgeon General. In fact, federal medical research institutions are forbidden to study guns as part of their public health mission or even to advocate for firearms restrictions.

This is an NRA power grab, plain and simple. They just want to prove how powerful they are, and can push Democratic senators around on anything at all. But they’re only as powerful as Democratic senators allow them to be, and they must stand up to the NRA’s bullying tactics.

Sign the petition to Senate Democrats: Don’t cave to the NRA. Give Dr. Vivek Murthy a fair confirmation vote—where he can be judged on the issues relating to his job.

Keep fighting,
Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos

This should be a slam dunk. We have over 50 votes. Just vote and move on. We need to vote for every possible person that we can this Spring and Summer and Fall for that matter. Let's just put progressives in positions all over the country.

Because the surgeon general has no bearing on gun control issues. Further, draconian gun control laws have about as much chance of passing as PBO getting a third term in office.

Although I suspect that his nomination will get torpedoed. The lesson of 1994, at least the lesson the NRA has been preaching, will not soon be forgotten.
