I'm anxious to see Don Lemon

on CNN tonight. He had an investigation going with several guests that was very skeptical of the southern ocean search. It was a lengthy program and lasted a few hours with a few interruptions...

When Don Lemon started the plane coverage, I think he encouraged the network to keep it on because of the high ratings. But I am convinced that he became overcome with interest and he himself wanted to know all about the disappearance. It was great to see Miles O'Brien again, but he sure looked different with his crew cut and beard. I have always liked him (he was taken off of CNN in the middle of his space week [Wed], without explanation, and has not been seen on CNN since.)

Lemon asked about every aspect of the disappearance, and called upon pilots and experts, and the simulator, for their opinions, which leaned very heavily in turning the search northward. Some of these guests will not be convinced, and I was sure that after last evening's attempt to solve the mystery, a majority of the public will not easily be persuaded to give up such convincing explanations....

He asks dumb questions and sometimes makes downright idiotic remarks, like when he speculated that the airplane could have been sucked into a black hole. He said, "“is it preposterous” to consider a black hole as a possibility? Mary Schiavo, a former Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Transportation, said, “A small black hole would suck in our entire universe, so we know it’s not that.” http://www.mediaite.com/tv/cnns-don-lemon-is-it-preposterous-to-think-a-black-hole-caused-flight-370-to-go-missing/ He also wondered whether God did it. http://www.mediaite.com/tv/don-lemon-cnn-guest-wonder-whether-something-supernatural-happened-to-malaysian-plane/

Although at least he didn't try to connect the incident to Benghazi, like they did on Faux "News."

The reason we haven't seen Miles O'Brien lately is this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/20/miles-obrien-arm-amputated-depression_n_4999190.html?utm_hp_ref=media

He uses the same approach as Erin O'Brien, and that is to start from a point where they seeemingly know nothing, and from that point on, they keep asking questions until they totally understand. It helps me because sometimes the host thinks we know things that we don't and starting from zero, I gain understanding.

Thanks for the link....Miles was let go by CNN years ago and it was sudden, because he was supposed to have had an entire week on space. He was let go in the middle of the week.

His arm was amputed this past Feb....

You can drill down without starting with hypotheses as dumb as black holes or God. I've been watching CNN's coverage and Lemon makes me cringe. Anderson Cooper isn't bad, though.

and his questions become increasingly probative. There is no doubt that he understands the information the experts provide because he asks more questions from others to confirm what he has learned and then builds on more questions, always checking with the appropriate expert.

Nobody who ever went to school anywhere past 3rd grade knows that the plane did not go into a black hole....and if anyone has an inkling of an idea of what a black hole is, they have gone past 3rd grade and know the holes are quite far away...

He was showing his need for information so far not given, not serious about that remark. I'm more worried about Mary Schiavvo who seemed not to understand his technique of getting to the bottoms of things.

He showed that his show was flailing for things to say, so just read out stupid crap from viewers' dumb questions (and they had enough time to prepare the screen caption about it; a professional news broadcast would have found something sensible to talk about).

It's easy to jump the shark under those conditions. I think if Lemon and others had the chance to step away from the story for a day or two, they would have come back with a theory similar to Goodfellow's "startingly simple" theory. Still, people won't feel closure unless a confirmed piece of wreckage is found.
