Man beats 13 year old daughter while mother films it- it goes viral with most approving

I find this so disturbing and depressing.

I heard about it just a bit ago while listening to some NPR program. The back story is that the 13 year old had taken off for 3 days.

A father beats his 13-year-old daughter as her mother records it and spews profanities in a viral video that surfaced recently.

According to online reports, the man in the video beat his daughter because of her rebellious behavior.

<snip>

As her father holds her by her hair and beats her with a rod or folded belt, the daughter seems to accept the beating. The woman holding the camera, presumably the girl’s mother, spews profanities in the video.

While they express concern over her being “off in the woods dead somewhere," some speculate that they couldn’t have been too concerned, considering authorities were never alerted of the girl’s disappearance.

Since its publication, the video has accumulated 3 million views.

I left at 17 years old and never looked back. If she wasn't wailing on me she was more than willing let the boyfriends wail on me. And the sad thing was? I wasn't a bad kid. I'm 58 years old and, needless to say, we're "estranged." So, those of you who believe in "spare the rod, spoil the child," remember this post. And may you rot in hell for your sadistic behavior.

in the first place. I have no doubt that her parents are monsters, and can only hope that the authorities intervene and remove her from that hellhole of a home.

And BTW I didn't watch the video. I have spent a lot of years working with both victims and perpetrators of every sort of abuse, and already have a massive overload of specific and detailed knowledge of what people are capable of doing to each other.

One final point--without excusing anything, I will comment that violence often perpetuates violence down the generations, and parental rage, originating in the parents' own childhood experiences, is often displaced onto their children. Obviously, this is not always the case; for every abused abuser there are others with equally brutal childhoods whose history of suffering leads them to abhor the thought of harming their own children or anyone else. It is only half in jest that I have sometimes commented that the two major products of abusive childhoods are abusers and psychotherapists.

But if I saw that video without any explanation I would assume it was a guy beating his girlfriend. Where did this video come from and is their any facts to this being a father daughter and not some guy beating his wife and saying it's daughter so people will not question?

but he won't necessarily avoid legal consequences either way. But someone who would beat another person and post the video isn't thinking ahead to consequences like that. I'm sure we can reasonably assume that we're witnessing child abuse.

Girls who are abused sometimes resort to such measures in an effort to seek out approving / 'positive' interaction with adults. If the abuse is sexual in nature this is an even more common response.

Honestly that looks like a guy beating his girlfriend and should be charged with domestic violence. If you look at the comments on the link everyone thinks it's ok because it's supposedly his daughter, doubt anyone would be saying that if it was his girlfriend or wife.

It's their raison d'etre; they'll flood the comments boards just to inflate their numbers, or whatever.

What's scary, though, is that right now, there are several million people in this country who really do think that this is perfectly acceptable.......and some of *them* even outright applaud it! (Trolls or not)

The abuse is definitely not hyperbole!

I'm not entirely against kids picking their own switch, but holy crap that daughter needs to be removed from that household immediately and the father charged with battery.

None of their faces are visible. If it is real, the arguments about "old school discipline" fail big time. Whippings are one thing, but when insults and slurs are added to the whipping, it becomes something entirely different. There is no scenario where it's OK to call a 13 year old child--or anyone--a bitch and a ho.
