Obama says he's more worried about the possibility of ‘nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan’ than Russian threat

WASHINGTON — President Obama is more worried about a nuclear terror attack targeting New York City than he is about Russia's territorial ambitions, he said Tuesday.

"Russia's actions are a problem," Obama said Tuesday in The Hague, Netherlands, after the third meeting of the international Nuclear Security Summit.

But the Russians "don't pose the No. 1 national security threat to the United States," the President said.

"I continue to be much more concerned when it comes to our security with the prospect of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan."

Not strongly. But I think he's right in general that domestic terrorism is a far greater threat to us than an attack by another country. And I think he was right to name New York by name because it puts a "face" on it and, let's face it, New York is a prime target.

eye-for-an-eye - anyone involved in such a nightmare scenario would have to know that there would be retribution on at least a matching scale.

We all know that even that wouldn't deter some people, so this is why we all need to find ways to make nuclear ANYTHING illegit and prohibited.

the total lack of worry with respect to Russia. There is no threat of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan. I get his point, but it seems the point could have been made with something we are or should actually be worried about. The never ending waronterra language and framing needs to go.

I am more worried about the effects of climate change and gun violence, for example.

his foot in his mouth. He is right about the USA not going to war with Russia about a situation that Europe should be, and AREN'T, taking the lead on. But the statement about a nuke going off in Manhattan is a concern that is better left unsaid.
