I finally left JP Morgan Chase and deposited all my funds with a credit union.
I never personally had a problem with Chase. They treated me well and gave me quarters for laundry when I needed them. I even took advantage of their "Freedom" card when I was moving and buying furniture, netting some extra cash in the process. However, I could no longer trust them or any other big bank because of their default credit swaps, derivatives, risky bets that lost them over two billion dollars, foreclosure mills that forge phony contracts to steal houses and other hanky-panky Jamie Dimon was pulling with my money. Chase wasn't as bad as Bank of America, but without trust, I can't do business. From now on, I am a part of the credit union revolution.

Activism is great, but voting is the bomb.

(14,449 posts)I love it and never have a single problem. I hear my friends all the time complaining about their banks. I suggest credit unions but they don't want the hassle so they continue to complain.

I voted in the IL primary last week. On orders from my union, we all voted for Kirk Dillard so Bruce Rauner, the third Koch Brother, wouldn't get the GOP nomination. Unfortunately, it failed and now we have to defeat Rauner in the general.

(3,033 posts)We've had several issues. First of all, they hold my husband's pension deposits for 3 days, no matter if the 1st of the month is on a business day, holiday or weekend. Second, it's very difficult to get more than $1,000 cash at once - they say, "We're not a bank."
Also, we get an annuity check every month, and they call to verify every time before the check is credited to our account. We've been getting these monthly checks for over 3 years.
We're in the process of switching credit unions. The new one promises not to hold our funds.
On the plus side, checks are free and there are no fees. They pay us 1/4% on deposits. Free $250 overdraft protection.

(9,289 posts)One month I misread my minimum payment and underpaid by a few dollars. A week or so later I more than compensated for it with another payment. In response Chase raised my interest rate to 30% and kept it there for years even though my payment history was perfect after that. They are greedy bastards!
edited to add: By contrast, Bank of America has treated me very well.
