But the part the artist left out was when the employee said, "Thank you, I appreciate you giving me this opportunity." People are tribal, they respect those the see as being within their group. Business owners respect business owners. Even the owner of a new startup is still a part of that club, and a fellow business owner is likely to see him or her as more deserving of respect, help, and money, than any employee they have working for them.
The problem is that we are taught growing up to see ourselves as belonging to some particular class or tribe. We even have a special name for the employee classed person who dares to step away from the subservient position and charge whatever he thinks his professional services are worth. We call them entrepreneurs, as if this were some rare and magical creature or thing, and certainly not something anyone could do.
