According to Supreme Court Justice Roberts, yesterday in the Hobby Lobby case

Last edited Wed Mar 26, 2014, 01:38 PM - Edit history (1)

It doesn't matter that the for-profit Corporations like Hobby Lobby religious beliefs may in fact be WRONG about some forms of Birth Control, they only have to BELIEVE that what they "think" or "feel" is correct. If the mandate is overturned based on this type of lunacy, this would be one of the biggest miscarriage of justice in my lifetime.

After all, we already know that these people don't believe in science. They probably still believe that babies come from Storks or by the immaculate conception.

What other areas of case law has been based on "Feelings" and "Beliefs" which are totally personal in nature and unsupported by the facts? I can think of none.

When the police officer pulls me over and writes me out a ticket for speeding, can I go into court and say "Your Honor, I don't "Believe" I was speeding or I don't "Feel" that I was speeding.

If I'm a member of a jury and the medical examiner testifies that the cause of death was A, can I argue in the jury room that as a Christian, I "believe" that the cause of death is actually B.

Jeeeze. Obama Deranged Syndrome is going to be the death of this nation.

if they are stupid enough to rule in hobbylobby's favor.
it will be entertaining at least.

Can't somebody be sued for bringing religion into
government?

I thought they were supposed to be kept cleanly separate.
Politicians talking about God and Jesus and so on should
be fined for violating the separation.

escape based on the ideal that the Corporation is a separate entity from the person who owns the Corporation.

If John Roberts opens the door to this type of BullShip to pacify the Repugnants, I hope lawyers then use it to drive a truck through limited liability defenses for Corporations. Be careful what you wish for Repugs.

The laws that protect the free exercise of religion do not merely protect the free exercise of rational religion. Even if it is crazy to think that communion wine is turned into blood, for example, taking communion in the belief that the wine will become blood is protected. The Court will look at whether Hobby Lobby sincerely believes for religious reasons that some contraception is murder. But whether that belief is true or rational is irrelevant.

a Christian as well. However, I know of no one who takes communion who truly believes that they just drank Christ's blood. I believe that the wine 'symbolizes' the Blood of Christ, and the bread, the Body of Christ as we are re-inacting the Last Supper, but I don't take it 'literally' that I just drank Christ's blood.
