http://deadspin.com/georgia-mens-basketball-has-policies-against-orgies-an-1551697809The Student Press Law Center published the students' findings from various colleges around the country. The majority of the available guidelines are mundane, like sternly reminding athletes not to screw around on social mediawe already know people are hired to monitor that stuffbut the most interesting set of rules belonged to the Georgia Bulldogs men's basketball team, led by head coach Mark Fox. The section delves into what not to do in terms of sex.
To be clear, the section titled "Treat women with respect" mostly contains responsible, obvious advice, but some of it is weirdly detailed:
-No means no, date rape is a serious issue.
-You don't own your girlfriend.
-Stay out of gray areas, Orgies and gang bangs are inappropriate.
-Never assault or intimidate a woman.
-Birth control is your responsibility too
-Don't spend all your energy in the bed all night
-Hicky's/passion marks should not be ever noticed by coaches
-One. Not two or three girlfriends...
Ugh, Dad. It's called a hickey. (Also, college students still get hickeys?)

(40,416 posts)They go back at least to the 50's. Or earlier. Probably some Neanderthals gave their lovers hickeys. And yup! They too were likely teen-agers. As it always was.

(36,281 posts)...who are also receiving the message from their peers and school administrators that they're special or otherwise gifted (e.g. athletes). Speaking from some experience-- I was once a young man, LOL-- it's unfortunate that some will not see the wisdom of that advice until after they've made fools of themselves or worse, but it's still good advice. University sports programs often view character shaping as part of their educational mandate.
Especially when college athletes get more than their share of female attention -- Not everyone is prepared for that when they leave high school...
It's just smart policy and has been discussed in locker rooms and behind closed doors at every major university for decades...It's just strange to see the 'guidelines' in print...

(22,336 posts)it means gang rape, and is often used about gang rapes of unconscious girls at parties, a la Steubenville. They consider that to be a gray area?

(7,051 posts)There are women who are very willing participants in "gang bangs."

(22,336 posts)you'll find it means
1.
the successive rape of one person by a group of other people.
2.
an instance of violence, esp. a shooting, involving members of a criminal gang.
I assume they aren't talking about shootings.

(16,191 posts)A gang rape is a gang bang without consent. Do a little browsing around some of the alt-sex sites and you'll find that women advertising for gangbangs are a LOT more common than most straights would assume. A gangbang is simply an orgy where everyone focuses their activities on a single person rather than random group members. There are a hell of a lot of women who are turned on by the idea of having four or five guys make her the center of their sexual focus.
And, for what it's worth, Mirriam Webster defines a gang bang as "copulation by several persons in succession with the same passive partner". It's telling that you chose to post the Oxford definitions 1. and 2., but left out Oxfords definition 1.1: "A sexual orgy involving changes of partner." THAT is the definition of "gang bang" that most people associate the term with.

(22,336 posts)Not so much on real life. Real life and "gang bang" and high school kids = Steubenville.

(20,600 posts)A gang bang is a situation in which one person engages in physical sexual activity with several individuals sequentially or at the same time. [1] Normally, there is a single individual who is the central focus of the sexual activity; for example, one man or woman surrounded by several men or women.
By contrast, three people engaged in sex is normally referred to as a threesome, and four people are normally referred to as a foursome. Gang bangs also differ from group sex, such as threesomes and foursomes, in that most (if not all) sexual acts during a gang bang are centered on or performed with just the central person. Although the participants of a gang bang may know each other, the spontaneity and anonymity of participants is often part of the attraction.

(574 posts)but the Internet has changed the porn market forever, and overall, I'd say for the better. Now, no matter how "outre" you are, the Internet lets you know that you're not alone. When I think of all the LGBT kids in small towns with no open support networks around, I am so grateful that porn isn't just male fantasies anymore.
As far as gang bangs, my first recollection of the term was in the mid 1970s, in a swingers magazine. It was an ad from a couple, that began with "My husband is getting me a gang bang for my birthday..." They had negotiated what was acceptable to them, and requested Polaroid penis pics (remember, 1970s) but face pics didn't count, her requirements were total strangers and whe would be blindfolded. The ad closed with (soft quote) "I've been breaking my butt with a big dildo, my husband is very sore, we've been training hard". I was in high school at the time, and while it wasn't something I'd have done then, it was interesting.
P.S. gollygee, porn was kinda my business for a while. I am a male, ex-sex-worker, made my share of porn, been trained as a sex-educator, and I got about `1/3 of the way to a degree before I learned that I'm really not an educator type person. If you want to chat about porn sometime, I still know people, and if you're near SF, there's a hardcore, BDSM porn studio hereabouts that has regular tours. They do quality work, and the reason "Steubenville" was a news story was precicely because it was outrageous and unusual. Porn is not newsworthy, except for the financial pages.

(55,445 posts)in a given situation, athletes have been known to, shall we say, "team up" in bed with a groupie(s)?
And even with a completely clean, sober and 100% willing female participant begging for a 4-on-1, there is still a very real risk of hidden cameras, extortion, national embarrassment for the university and program, and a litany of uglier possibilities I don't want to think about...
I know it seems like the coach is overly prudish, but at the end of the day he's trying to protect his players, his program and his job...

(53,475 posts)As you may have seen in the thread, there's some disagreement over just how far into "inappropriate gray areas" some of these activities are.
And of course, why is "Orgies" capitalized, but "gang bang" is not?

(4,185 posts)But seriously, how do you know this snip or whatever it is, is a cut and paste and not a retype.
I read it as, 'you boys are gonna be boys, but behave like gentlemen and stay smart.' And it's written pretty frankly, which IMO goes a little further with the kids than the G rated version.
