My suggestion is call someone at the exchanges and see what they advise

They may currently be eligible for a type of limited Medicaid.

She's had several strokes, 80 years old diabetic, and other stuff.

Even if another dream job landed in my lap I couldn't take it.

Most hospitals have them. If you can stop by and check with one.
But do so quickly - you have til Monday to at least get an app started.

and you can apply for that anytime during the year.
