FBI Smashes Alleged Radical-Right Terror Plot in Texas

http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2014/03/28/fbi-smashes-alleged-radical-right-terror-plot-in-texas/

FBI agents in Texas have arrested a man who allegedly was plotting to use C-4 explosives and weapons to kill police officers, rob banks and armored cars, and blow up government buildings and mosques, authorities announced today.

Robert James Talbot Jr., 38, of Katy, Texas, was arrested Thursday on federal charges of attempted interference with commerce by robbery, solicitation to commit a crime of violence and possession of an explosive material, the FBI said.Robert-James-Talbot

After setting up a Facebook page called American Insurgent Movement (AIM), Talbot allegedly sought to recruit five or six like-minded people who wanted “to restore America Pre-Constitutionally and look forward to stopping the Regime with action by bloodshed.” He wrote this year on the AIM page that he was seeking people interested in “walking away from your life … to stop the regime.”

Talbot was arrested Thursday after meeting at a storage facility in Houston with three men he believed would help him carry out the robbery of an armored car, using other vehicles to block its path, the criminal complaint says.

A day earlier, one of the undercover agents had provided Talbot with what Talbot believed was C-4 explosive material that was to be used during the robbery of the armored car in the hopes of funding his operation, court papers say. Quite similarly, The Order gang carried out a successful $3.8 million robbery of an armored car near Ukiah, Calif., in July 1984, as well as two other, less successful heists.

On Wednesday, Talbot met with the three men he apparently was convinced would help him carry out the robbery. He was shown “stolen C-4” explosive he had requested, that actually was inert, and eight other explosive devices he had purchased for $500.

The guy had a "Don't Thread On Me" t-shirt on when he was arrested. The radical right is inciting those who wants to have a reason to run out and start shooting. The nuts are all around us, they are angry perhaps after listening to RW talk shows and basically being told it is alright to pack your guns and shoot and ask questions later. He may have been trying to recruit others, but it may not be the end of plots, terror home grown.

although the snippet above makes me wonder why he was out walking the streets in the first place. I agree with you regarding recruitment, however, as RW pundits have certainly made domestic terrorism 'fashionable.'

The premise that RW radio contributes to recruitment of domestic terrorists is still valid IMO.

when the threat is directed at the .01%.

Had the attack been aimed at a new MLK, they would have provided real C-4 & stood back.

The right freaks out about stuff like this, and the left freaks out about stings on Greenpeace, but the MSM largely ignores both.

But is there a difference other than one gets applauded while the other is doubted? Some welcome all stings against potential violent acts.
