this one went on for a while but didn't feel TOO bad. I can't find it on the USGS site, either, so I have no idea how close or deep it was,

More land for the force to dissipate. These suckers are shallow, ergo also more potentially damaging for the richer scale grade.

It is not just the Richter scale, but depth, direction of waves and resonance.

Stay safe and if we get the big one, make sure you are ready for it

last night it was the big story all night - even the 3.4 after shock. If I felt it in Alhambra and it was another after shock it must have been a big deal in La Habra

Water, batteries, food that doesn't require refrigeration/cooking. If you have a bathtub, fill
it with water.

I didn't even feel it and I'm sitting at my desk.

But the incresing trend of moderate quakes in SoCal over the past weeks and months has me concerned that it could eventually culminate in a Northridge-level event. Could be years for that though.

was a good thing? being in GA we don't know from earthquakes really but it was always my understanding that the small ones let off the stresses in the fault a little at a time rather than the stress building to a big shaker... is that not right? I would love to learn more... but not directly, if you get my continental drift...

vanished, and only started up again in the last year or two, IIRC.

So this increase is ringing some unpleasant bells.

From my past experiences (45 years) aftershocks are not larger than the original quake. This whole sequence seems very strange.
