I have not had health insurance for 6 years, due to a preexisting condition. Today with the help of a the 800# for the Obama-care health exchange I have a good insurance plan which is affordable. I will now be able to get the procedures I have needed.
Thank you President Obama,
and all those who have fought hard to keep the scumbag republicans out of the Whitehouse.

(9,461 posts)people will be? Or at least, not having a population who is worried about the procedure they're putting off. The thought of "what if my back finally gives out tomorrow?"

(5,311 posts)...and pay it, which will seal the deal.
I recently celebrated the 20th Anniversary of my 39th birthday, and I have NEVER had health insurance.
As a punk-alt rocker/visual artist/web developer -- and self-employed (or self-unemployed, depending on the number of jobs not coming in) -- I have never before been able to afford it, until the ACA and the subsidies from the Feds.
So it's good that I can get an approximately $500/month policy for only $41, after the subsidies.
However, I would still prefer a "Medicare for All," single payer system as opposed to the bloodsucking parasitic for-profit Insurance Beasts being involved in primary and preventive care, for up to 20% profit skimmed off of the top of my premiums and the Govt. Subsidies.
The ACA is a start, but it needs a lot of work, IMO...

(3 posts)I am glad many can get insurance for the first time in many years. However, I am not one of them.
I am unemployed and have been trying to get a job for three years now, less than $1000 annual income (can barely stay fed), over the "magic" 40 years old number, ineligible for subsidies for Obamacare, not eligible for state health care/assistance. I keep going on, because there has to be something better. What that is, I do not know...

(3 posts)Was on the phone many times, and hours NOT on hold, with healthcare.gov and was informed I am not eligible. They keep saying try again later and to try state assistance. I keep trying again later. Also have gone in person to state (PA) assistance and applied, and was denied and told to keep trying.
I will not give up, but can understand why many are PO'd at ObamaCare and the gov't in general. I keep trying and pray things will get better.

(68,918 posts)There are quite a few options available to you, depending upon the state you live in.

(3 posts)Live in Pennsylvania, applied for public assistance (food stamps, welfare, job search, medical) Have been denied food stamps, welfare and medical. Am still looking for a job, local office has been unable to place myself and a number of others, unofficially I am too old and over qualified for jobs I am eligible for and have been told with training, I will most likely still not be eligible for most jobs. Due to my unemployment, my credit rating has plummeted from over 800 to below 550 and my bank account is near drained. I have been "labeled" as one of the few who, even when trying, cannot get help. My local state representative is helping and becoming very frustrated at the entire situation. He is a family friend and can only say "sorry" with a tear in his eye.
I know I am not alone and pray everyday for help. I am not sitting on my butt doing nothing, I clear brush, cut firewood, mow grass, repair tools... all for food and lodging, with what money I can get.

(21,596 posts)I just got health insurance through the federal exchange today as well. It will be in effect May 1, 2014. I've not had health insurance since May 2009.
I am so very happy for you and the millions of our fellow citizens who now have health insurance.
Let us all now push to expand Medicaid in the red states which have rejected expansion so that millions more of our fellow citizens can get the health insurance and health care that they need and deserve.
