Which is why I love that he depicts the current NSA in other cartoons as traitorous criminals as much if not more than Bundy is

I myself must admit I've liked every single one of his editorial comics. I understand the cop types siding with him on this one and the mentality that wants structure and organized laws but Bundy is a symptom nonetheless of prosecutorial overreach and government authoritarianism. It doesn't matter that Bundy is wrong, or that he is a wealthy freeloader, or that his followers are most likely idiots. Even idiots are fed up with the police state and they are just looking for any cause to rally around regardless of the facts and who can blame them. It's called blowback and it's not just a problem from overseas.

There is a perception that Bundy and his gun-toting "whiteys" got let off easy, unlike Occupy and other
more liberal/leftist protests.

What if Occupy had brought guns with them?
Use some imagination.

Not pretty.

But it was different for Bundy.

Seems like the system naturally favors white, prosperous rightwingers.

That is the perception.

And I believe it is accurate.

Its a mental illness with them at this point. They have doubled down on so many lies and doubled down again that they are just too far gone. Admitting any of the lies and challenging their predetermined belief systems would send them into a tailspin as the structure of their belief system would collapse as its built upon such fragile platforms.

They waved the flag of the United States of America, the country they said they didn't acknowledge or recognize!

Either they're hypocrites or dumb shits. Or perhaps just maroons!

Check it out. It's unbelievably hilarious and poignant. It's a short illustrated book with soundtrack by Dana. Recommended to all.

... the panel that imo is portraying Law Enforcement as being ineffectual. I get what was being suggested in it but it could have been said in a fashion that more accurately portrayed what happened. The 2 cops could have been discussing being told to back down for instance.

Correct me if I am wrong but I doubt that the BLM or their agents in the field were scratching their heads asking "What can you do?" No, they did what they were told to do and regardless of how you may feel about their orders those agents did their jobs and did them in a hazardous environment-an environment where someone very well could have gotten shot!

The subtext I get from that panel suggests that Law Enforcement is ineffectual. With all the Cop bashing going on across our nation, (as well as here in the big DU), a popular cartoonist suggesting that Law Enforcement is ineffectual is a potentially bad meme-seed to put out there imo.

I like to believe that if Tom Tomorrow saw my words here he would be in agreement.

Having said that, I think TT got it right. If Bundy had been, say, a medical marijuana user in a state where it's still illegal who surrounded himself with armed black men in order to defy the law, I suspect the police response would have been very different. I know that's not a very good analogy, but it was the best I could do off the top of my head.

On grass that we, the taxpayers, own. He's stealing our grass to feed his for-profit cattle. Other ranchers have to pay to feed their cows. So he's just trying to get an unfair advantage in the market.

Nobody seems to mention it, but there is a Nevada Cattlemen's Organization - and if any of them were at the Bundy Ranch, you'd have heard about it. They have a 2 page statement (pdf) which says in a nutshell: We sympathize, it sucks, but the law is the law and we're not getting involved.

I did some research and posted on another site the following:

Fees for grazing (cow/calf combination):
private land: $16.80 per month
state land: between $2.28 and $150 per month
federal land: $1.35
According to the GAO, the federal land grazing program brought in $21 million in fees. It cost $144 million to run.
In other words, he's a mooch and a cheat.

Grazing on federal land is a freakin' bargain compared to state and private land. Bundy's only problem is the one he has with the federal government. If he wants to graze his herd on state land, it could cost him up to $150 a month for each cow/calf pair and more than 10 times on privately held land. His choice, but it's a stupid one.
