There was a good chance of inadvertent injury, just because the whales are so immense and powerful, but I like to think they're smart enough to finesse their movements to avoid hurting the people.

(628 posts)One minute you're swimming in murky water and the next this hulking whale rises barely an arm's length from you. Very cool video. Pity the divers didn't catch it happening from beneath the surface.

(39,356 posts)and if you are ever that close to a bait ball (of small feeder fish), you'll want to get away very quickly else you meet their predator. I've taken kayakers right through rolling feeding frenzies of bait fish and then sharks.
You will want to get away from that situation as soon as you are aware of it... or else you'll be whale (or shark) poop in a day or so.
