Moderates Say 0% Growth for Middle Class Vindicates Balanced Economic Policy

WASHINGTON -- A new report published by the New York Times shows that over the last 30 years, the US middle class has experienced a near zero percent growth in income. After adjusting income for taxes and inflation, the US lags far behind Canada and Western Europe. In contrast, incomes of the richest Americans have soared over the same interval.

Moderates from both political parties were quick to credit the report as proof their economic policies are working, “We achieved the perfect balance necessary for our most advantaged citizens to prosper with virtually zero impact to the middle class”, says Eileen Wright, policy analyst at the Center for the American Center, a moderate leaning corporate trade group. Ms. Wright indicated there is still more work to be done, “Signing the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement with Asia promises future generations will continue to enjoy all the benefits of balanced economic policy initiatives.”

13. From the link

Spokesman for the 99% Ben Dover issued a scathing rebuttal to the Center's statement.

"The 1% continues to accumulate vast wealth while the rest of us continue to drown."

6. When I see things like this, I can't help but think that Americans are idiots.

Most of them haven't gotten a raise in 30 years, and still they work their asses off as if they're going to be rich one day. All most of them accomplish is developing lots of health problems and being sick for the last quarter of their lives until they get cancer or have that last fatal heart attack. It ain't living, folks, and something's got to give, and soon.

8. Productivity has also RISEN over those years,

which means that the Working Class is working longer and harder to make the same amount.
That equals a Pay Cut.

9. This is apparently an original work of satire.

There's no such thing as "the Center for the American Center".

... or at least that's one explanation.

12. Cool name tho.

I once asked DU what the Third Way think tank should take when it re-branded like the DLC did (after their Koch funding and board members became common knowledge).

That name would have won my little contest.

10. Eileen Wright....ha! I get it....DUzy

I did have to follow the link to the NYT to confirm that, although this is not the onion, this is a brilliant piece of parody
