Chris Christie is a glutton...

for punishment.

Given Bill Maher's recent comment on 'political correctness' and the reality that gluttony is frowned on in all cultures, did Joel McHale cross the line last night?

How can it be wrong to call a glutton a glutton? And speaking about Christie, why is it OK to all him a bully, but not a glutton if both are facts.

But the man is a filthy fucking bully jackass who doesnt deserve to pick up my garbage let alone run an entire state.

His popularity goes along with how half this country wants to rename Earth to Reagan, when in fact Reagan was a complete dumbass who fucked this country up so bad it is unrecognizable.

I have no earthly idea if he is overweight because he overeats or because his metabolism makes him gain weight with normal eating habits.

I am no medical doctor but someone needs to explain to me exactly when this metabolism problem began because he sure had no such problem in his youth.

Additionally why are there so many caricatures of him eating if that's not the truth?

This is Christie on Letterman - he chose this act.

And I think the answer is actually simple if you separate what causes one to become perplexed about it.

Look at from where he stands ,the way to be in the favor of the fat cat's is to become one !It is what it is !

Robbie Ford checked into a rehab. center in Chicago. You might say he flew the coup.He is no Blue Jay !

I wonder where Christie would go ?

Why the fuck does it matter in political discourse? Fat people know being fat is bad. They don't have to be told. They're told every day.

I don't want to defend the blowhard, and I wish people would stop posting threads about his weight so I didn't have to seem like I was.

Sun May 4, 2014, 02:56 PM

It is about gluttony and that is about food and not metabolism or bad eating habits often caused by poverty.

Calling a glutton a glutton has nothing to do with the genuine weight issues of other folks. Christie only decided to abandon food gluttony because he is also a glutton for power.

and when Christie attacked a doctor for raising medical problems associated with his size, then went on Letterman with that do-nut in mouth - & then suddenly decided he needed to staple his stomach so that he would lose weight to run in the presidential election, he made himself fair game.

The notion of fat cats is real. I don't see why he should get a pass.

McHale was hilarious to me - a little green, but very funny.

Gluttony is almost always directed ONLY at fat people. Frankly, I think it's merely a way to deride a fat person for some kind of supposed lack of control, or some desire to consume more than their "fair share" as an example of consumption gone mad. Lots of academic work on this. Before pursuing this kind of argument, I suggest you peruse some of it. I highly recommend a book called "Bodies Out Of Bounds"

I do know a few skinny gluttons. There are people who lose control in the presence of food - particularly 'free food'.

The kind of arguments you are making are WELL addressed in the academic literature. In particular, the whole "self-mastery" argument is ripped to shreds by a number of people using theory based on Michel Foucault, among others. Another book I recommend is The Fat Studies Reader.

There is TONS to criticize Christy for. Being a "Glutton" is not one of them. In fact, these days, a fat person is more likely to be poor than rich.
