Asian gets sentenced to death by stoning for adultery in Abu Dhabi

Published Sunday, May 04, 2014
An Abu Dhabi criminal court sentenced an Asian housemaid to stoning to death after she was found guilty of committing adultery while married.

The maid had been rushed to hospital following abdominal pains and tests showed she was pregnant after sleeping with another man.

Newspapers said the maid confessed in court that she committed adultery and the judge handed down the sentence on the basis of her confession in line with Islamic law.

It was the first time in many years that a person was sentenced to stoning to death in such a case in the UAE. Judicial sources said the maid can appeal the sentence.

Unlike, for example, Syria.

I don't recall ever hearing of a man being stoned for that "crime". Maybe it happens and just doesn't make the news.

If you support the death penalty, and what I wrote here upsets you, you're doing it wrong.

For what it's worth, I don't support the death penalty, but the stupid here is so strong, it burns.

and relatively liberal and even permissive. You will find all night discotheques, English pubs, ultra-modern hotel resorts and even churches and temples. But things like this really do come up. I suppose when I keep in mind that it in 1972 they still had a slave market and less than twenty years before that warring tribes were having raids to steal cattle and women - one is reminded how close they are to an archaic past.

Why does any civilized government have any dealings with such barbaric and uncivilized countries? They really should be cut off from any access to modern amenities until they eliminate such inhuman acts.

Domestic help in the UAE: Maid for trouble?

Asma Ali Zain and Amira Agarib / 22 April 2014

It could be ill treatment or mental illness that leads a human being to the point of a violent breakdown and force him/her to take lives of innocent children. Khaleej Times explores the maladies affecting domestic help in the UAE and finds caution, awareness and a change in attitude are needed

For children, their caregivers are the people in whom they place their utmost trust. And if that trust is broken, it could forever impact their lives psychologically and physically.

A recent case in which a maid allegedly attacked three young children of her employer with a cleaver and poured boiling hot water over them shocked the nation. She reportedly claimed that she was being ill treated by her employers.

This is not the first time that such a case has hit the headlines. Earlier this year, a maid allegedly strangled an 11-month-old infant after she was refused a leave by her employers.www.khaleejtimes.com/kt-article-display-1.asp?xfile=data/infocus/2014/April/infocus_April3.xml§ion=infocus

These women have no names - story after story they are just referred to as "housemaids".
They must be mentally ill - never abused or overworked by their employers.
