General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIn need of prayers, good feelings any thing that might help. I have written about my severely
disabled daughter her often. She has seizures, developmental disability and digestive problems. Does not talk, can no longer walk, needs full care. I cared for her for the first 45 years of her life and she is now in a foster home at the age of 56.
For the last year she has gone from 8-10 seizures a month to 2 a month. Several days ago she had a terrible seizure. It lasted 12 minutes and she was rigid during the whole thing scraping the inside of her arms and other damage. We have no idea what is happening to her or why. Have a full physical scheduled in two days.
Please pray for her or whatever form of thoughts you use in emergencies. Her name is Terri. Thank you.

I'm not sure if this helps, but as I read this a lovely ruby-throated hummingbird came up to my feeder-so I am sending the good feeling from seeing that your way (I'm sorry if that seems a little 'out there' but I see nature as healing).

(14,337 posts)Your daughter is so, so fortunate to have a parent like you. From your post, I will assume you must be a Senior yourself. Having worked with adults with these special needs, I know how difficult it is, especially for someone who is older themselves.
Your love for your daughter has gotten her this far in her life. You are a wonderful parent. Good vibes to BOTH of you.

(2,012 posts)Over 100 families from around the world have moved to Colorado so that their children who have uncontrolled seizures could be given a strain of cannabis high in CBD and low in TCH. It is called Charlotte's Web after 7 yr old Charlotte Figi from Colorado Springs whose parents had tried every possible medicine and whose life literally has been saved by taking this strain of cannabis in oil form. It has helped so many that it is getting amazing publicity. Please refer to Realm of Caring and CNN for more information.

(28,784 posts)Are you aware of the reports among parents with children with epilepsy and autism about the positive results of medical marijuana for those with these issues?
also - marijuana causes remission of symptoms in Crohn's disease and is also used for people with IBS.
For someone in such a situation, simply eating a small amount of marijuana butter before sleep would be enough to see if your daughter would benefit.

(6,640 posts)I have a 42 year old severely handicapped daughter with many of the same problems you describe. Marijuana butter has been a real help. Adding to the prescription drugs that did not complete the job, she has been happier, not hitting herself nearly as much and eating better.

(1,241 posts)call Colorado and have someone send you an extract of cannabis cbd or drive there and get some. You are a wonderful caring and amazing person and you owe it to your daughter, yourself and the many others with the same problem. If it works, great, spread the news. After 56 years I would have to know the answer It has worked for hundreds, just maybe it will work for Terri.

(39,215 posts)going into a foster home was that I cannot lift and move her anymore. One blessing I was able to totally train her foster family into taking care of her my way. We have also had very good doctors and health care. There are benefits to being poor when there is an illness in the family.

(39,215 posts)are ready to help her with the damage that was done to her arms, etc. We had never seen a seizure like this before. She has always had 5 different kinds of seizures - mostly under control except the one kind. This came as a complete surprise especially when she had seemed to actually getting better.
When we go to the physical we will get Dilantin levels and that will help us understand some of it. I hope.

My ex-husband has a cousin who was born profoundly mentally disabled, and was not expected to live more than a couple of years. She is in her sixties, and sometimes I think she will outlive me. Until recently, she lived at home (her mother has passed now), with some help from caretakers for several years now, and is loved and cherished by her family, and those who know her.

(3,414 posts)I also have a daughter who has severe disabilities. She is 30 yrs old and has had prolonged seizures. Perhaps hormonal changes? I often overlooked non-disability related causes for various changes, but learned it's just sometimes due to a "normal" stuff.

(39,215 posts)She was alert and happy . No more of the really bad type of seizure and blood levels for Dilantin seem to be stable. We are starting to track a new behavior that will be used to lobby for persons who are not deaf or blind but rely on signing to communicate. We have begun recognizing many more actions she uses to communicate her needs and as we talked about it we realized she uses them in both of the locations she spends her days. One interesting thing is that her primary physician says he envies Terri's labs as they are better than most of his patients. This despite the seizures.
She recognizes me by my voice since I often call and talk to her over the speaker phone.
