WATCH: GOP Rep. Pulls Out ‘Faux’ Joint During Hearing on Marijuana Laws

Members of Congress have been known to bring some strange props to hearings over the years, but this may be the first time a joint was brandished in a committee room, even if it was (supposedly) a fake one. During a House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee hearing on marijuana decriminalization, Rep. John Mica (R-FL) picked up a joint and started waving it around to show the room what a gram of pot really looks like.

“I have this joint here,” he said. “This is — okay, don’t get too excited, some of you. This is not a real one. It’s a mock one.” He explained that his staff informed him that the joint represented one gram, so under proposed regulations, people could be in possession of 28 joints in the District of Columbia.
