After reading a few stories it seems like he is a little small for today's NFL so he was picked lower in the draft and predicted to be a little lower and that homophobia could have played some part in why he was picked so low too.

So for us non fans what's the deal? Is he really good enough for the NFL? From what I know of football today the SEC seems like it is pretty much the minor league for the NFL.

And he gambled so much on coming out beforehand.

But that was only the opening battle. Now he has to win the war of being good enough for the NFL. Any shortcomings on his part will be interpreted as not being "man enough," unfortunately -- he won't have the luxury of being average.

With the same statistically driven response over his playing skills and with the same platitudes about how emotionally excited it is for a player to get drafted as a rookie AS THEY HAVE FOR EVERY OTHER PLAYER DRAFTED.

When being a gay athlete becomes an unremarkable aspect, as lets say, an athlete's race, it's really nothing less than a huge step forward in terms of equality.
