Hundreds of ATV riders in Utah threaten sacred Navajo burial ground to protest federal government

http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2014/05/10/Hundreds-of-ATV-riders-in-Utah-threaten-sacred-Navajo-burial-ground-to-protest-federal-government/7271399741853/?spt=sec&or=tn?spt=nil&d=n

More bullshit from anti-government goons.

SALT LAKE CITY, May 10 (UPI) --Protesters who say the Bureau of Land Management has no right to criminalize use of ATVs in Utah's Recapture Canyon plan to demonstrate today by illegally riding their vehicles through the protected land - a move that has drawn the ire of Native Americans and displaced a veterans retreat.
"It is sad that irreplaceable treasures of importance to all Americans would be sacrificed on the altar of anti-government fervor," Jerry Spangler, executive director of the Colorado Plateau Archaeological Alliance said in a statement. "It is worse that protesters would be so blinded to their own insensitivity as to what others consider to be sacred treasures of their past."

Willie Grayeyes, chair of a nonprofit that lobbies to protect Navajo land, was offended at both the protesters' dismissive attitude toward Native American culture and their disrespect for the American veterans who had to move their long-scheduled retreat to ensure it could be held in peace.

for the last 51 years and also built a log cabin by hand on his own .

That's me also but now I have a gas powered log splitter and an ATV

When I hear the term true outdoors man or true hunter it kind of makes me laugh.

Do you hunt by spear or make your own bow and arrows? Or do you use a store bought bow ?

Maybe even a rifle.... see how silly it sounds when you use the term true outdoorsman..............

They seem analogous to ATVs, and the Inuit make extensive use of snowmobiles.

I have been in places where you needed ATVs and snowmobiles to get to town for necessities.

Not the case with these Bundyoids; they are just trashing the area with their noisy toys.

I once hosted at a campground on a lake. The jet skis were disruptive to the wildlife and the jet skiers were mostly obnoxious, self involved jerks. I petitioned the forest service to ban them, but didn't get much support. A lot of motorized boats should be banned too.

Where I live now, activists are trying to get ATVs banned on the Guadalupe Dunes because of the disruption to the wild life.

But should be used sparingly if you really want to enjoy nature, not just zip through it on a sight-seeing tour.

Driving to your deer stand in an ATV, shooting a deer, and then driving out again on an ATV isn't far removed from simply driving to the local grocery store and picking up a roast for dinner, IMO.

Maybe that's why so many hunters I see these days look more and more like this:

They need to get out and walk a little more, ride a little less.

'Bundy Affair' Rides Again in Utah Canyon Protest

Ryan Bundy, son of the Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, rides an ATV into Recapture Canyon north of Blanding, Utah on Saturday, May 10, 2014, in a protest against what demonstrators call the federal government's overreaching control of public lands.

nobody in Blanding that I have talked to seems to know anything about it. I spent Sunday hiking Moqui Canyon with friends, which isn't far away from Recapture. I think that the press may be elevating this event, and making more of it than it really was.

I really hope the BLM confiscates all their ATVs, sells them at a public auction in Maine (so there's no way the protesters will ever get them back), and uses the funds to repair the damage they caused today.

Even the rebels in the civil war made their own flag.

We did this some 20 years ago,met a Ranger along the way. This Lady Ranger hiked with us all the way in and through the sensitive areas pointing out all of the Ancient Peoples Cliff Houses and tools and pottery near by. What a History lesson, met the same Ranger, who now works at Mesa Verde, last summer. She was telling our group why Recapture was closed. Seems the Locals were taking and selling artifacts on the internet. With only 2 people working in the local BLM office, there aren't enough people to protect this Historical site. Also there has been a systematic defunding for paid staff positions within the BLM by Rethug politicians in D.C..

When you see these jerkoffs from Militialand cruising through this canyon, just pisses us off. It is just a real example of how out of touch a group of so called adults have become. It is all about the money and being used by the 1%ers. Most of Utah's Ancient Peoples sites have huge deposits of Oil and Gas as well as Coal and Uranium, need I say more,it's all about the money.

they are likely to destroy many of the ancient natural monuments in the Southwest, like those in Monument Valley, similar to how that guy tipped over that formation in Goblin Valley last year.

Sorry to be such a pessimist.
