Interesting horticultural aside about Mother's Day -

Roses take seven weeks to get to another bloom after a cut. Valentine's Day -> Mother's Day = 7 weeks.

Virtually every available bloom is cut on Feb. 14th. That results in a huge flush available for Mother's Day.

Other blooms will typically last longer and are more widely available domestically this time of year. If you plan ahead, there's lots of varieties of flowers that propogate from bulbs which can be planted in the fall and will bloom at the perfect time with virtually no effort after planting and they will come back year after year.

Plus succulents. I used to give some in full bloom, potted as gifts. (I was in the biz.)
They make great table pieces for the start of patio / backyard BBQ season.
