(36,416 posts)400 pounds is hardly typical, and any commercial Western honey producer making that claim is pulling your leg.
Perhaps a moist region hobbyist (east coast) with time on their hand, and the needed resources (brood comb from other hives, and a ready supply of replacement queens after swarming) could manipulate a boomer box to produce 400 pounds for bragging rights, but that's anything but typical.

(36,416 posts)placed on drawn comb can produce 100 pounds. Been there, done that. Eighty pounds is extremely respectable for established stationary colonies.
