DYLAN SCOTT MAY 13, 2014, 9:54 AM EDT
At least one veteran of the first Clinton administration is willing to bet that there won't be a second.
Mike McCurry, who served as President Bill Clinton's press secretary from 1994 to 1998, told Real Clear Politics that he might be the "last person in Washington" who thinks Hillary Clinton might skip another run at the White House.
"You seem to be convinced that Mrs. Clinton's running. I like to say I'm the only person
the only last person in Washington who'd be willing to take some bet that she might not run," McCurry said in a video interview with the news agency.
That puts him at odds with the other Clintonites who have lined up with the shadow campaign infrastructure that's been built to support a presumed Hillary 2016 run.

(14,449 posts)but unless we have a Democratic House and Senate, I think it would be so frustrating to her. She could never get everything necessary to make our country great again with a split government. I think she should enjoy herself. However, if she announces she is running, she gets my 100 percent primary vote and general election vote and all the support I can muster.

There are a lot more people who wish that she does run.

(24,979 posts)So it's really your time she'll be wasting -- like in 2008.

Same as your statement is YOUR opinion.

(30,247 posts)She only lost by a hair in 2008, and that only happened because they didn't factor the importance of the caucus states, a mistake that her campaign would not repeat.
Furthermore, Democrats better pray that she chooses to run. This won't be like 2008 when a Democrat was assured a win after Bush, two wars and the economic collapse. It's rare that Democrats get a third consecutive term in the WH. Hillary could probably be the one person who could make it happen.

(24,979 posts)This nonsense is getting old.
Unlike most people here, I actually voted for her once. And I remember that she then voted for a war of aggression in Iraq, enabling the worst possible international crime. I do not forget. She has been in support of every neocon war since.

(17,469 posts)or is he just continuing to pursue the press secretary's stereotype as the last person who knows anything?

(17,469 posts)on global warming. They are wrong. Anyone who thinks HRC isn't running is wrong. It is a done deal (barring some health problem).
Understand, I wish the fellow was right. I wish we had some other person, perhaps an actual liberal who was going to be the next president, but such is not the case.

(5,066 posts)I don't want her to run. The clintons are too close to wall street. If you think Obama has been too probusiness what do you think
hillary would be. Plus she is too much of a hawk for me In foreign policy.
If she doesn't run that may mean bernie sanders may not launch independent run for white house which would put me In bad situation
since I would rather support someone like him although there is noway In hell i would vote for any republican.
Her noot running would mean republicans couldn't make 2016 election about bengrzi although she would probally win that election the problem Is what would happen with her in white house.

(6,960 posts)The Democratic Party needs to move forward.
Indeed, I am surprised at the degree of Obama-fatigue that is already developing. This is not going to help a Clinton presidential run ... Obama and Clinton are a part of the same political episode.
There are great Democratic potential presidential nominees out there that would bring dynamism and freshness to to the 2016 contest. A Hillary Clinton nomination makes me get tired just thinking about it.
So, McCurry may be correct because he can understand where Hillary is in reality -- cold, hard reality that comes from knowing how exhausting a presidential campaign can be and how stressful a presidency can be.
If Clinton doesn't run ... think of the possibilities. I just got the Elizabeth Warren book and will start reading it soon -- it sure looks like a campaign book.
In my estimation a non-Hillary presidential nomination could win at least 400 electoral votes and bring the biggest landslide since LBJ -- especially if it is against the three strongest looking Repuglican candidates right now: Bush, Paul or Kasich (assuming he gets reelected, which I doubt).

(28,017 posts)I think his negotiating style, especially in his first term is partly to blame. He first asked us to move the agenda, to press him to act, and then instead of following up like he promised, he sent out his pet pitbull Rahm and his neocon DINO Bill Daley to attack us for being too liberal.
The few times that he actually stood up to the GOP and acted, he accomplished a bunch of things. He shocked the GOP, which until then was used to a caver in chief, he pleasantly surprised us, and he got decent results. Unfortunately, those events were relatively rare.
I would love to see him stand up on net neutrality and to piss on his FCC chair. But it won't happen, because they agree on the destruction of the intertubes.
I would love to see him recall that neocon in Europe who single-handedly made things worse in Ukraine (and NATO) with her idiotic comments.
I would love to see him veto a bill sometime.
But these are the acts of a confident leader. Which is why we will only see half measures at best.

(21,024 posts)When she stepped down as SOS she was burned out. She appeared to be utterly exhausted. She's recovered from that and is clearly thinking seriously about running, but I don't think she'll pull the trigger.

(1,348 posts)All I care about is keeping Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and the rest of those fucking lunatics as far away from the White House as possible.
If Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Hillary, Howard Dean or a fucking ham sandwich can make that happen -- for the benefit of the planet -- then they have my vote.
